Prince Tour 95 / New forum member

Hey Tennis-warehouse members,

This is my first post on this forum. I have been scrolling through various threads over the last couple of months and definitely appreciate the knowledge on this forum, I've learned a lot. Bit of background. I'm from Australia,won many tournaments here in Australia, ranked top 100 nationally, played d1 college tennis in the USA, and am now coaching and hitting for my own enjoyment. For the United States members, I'm a 6.0+ level player.

For the last 3 years I've played with the prince rebel 95 (bright yellow), and now the Prince tour 95. I love these frames, love the weight, solid feel at impact, and large sweet-spot. However, as most of you would know Prince stopped manufacturing these frames, and I only have two playable frames left, and to be honest they need to be replaced. Problem is, every racket I play with doesn't match up, either in feel, plow, or control. First question is, does anyone know where I could find new/barely used Prince rebel 95 (either green or yellow) or the tour 95, or is anybody on this forum selling any? 4 3/8 grip size. Second question, could anyone recommend a replacement frame that would be most similar to the tour 95? From my research either the Angell TC95 18x20 or Prince Phantom Pro 93p seem like good alternates. Two issues with those frames, first, would they have a similar feel without the 'o-ports', and I won't be able to demo either of the frames as no store in Australia stocks the 93p, so any comment from members who have used both the 93p and tour 95 for a comparison would be appreciated (note; I'm aware of the '93p is a gift forum post', great read.)

Look forward to adding some of my knowledge and participating on this forum.

I changed from a Tour 98 to a Textreme 100P. The two are fairly similar but I got a little more accuracy and spin out of the 100P, and it looks better - the Tour 98 is hideous. Didn't really miss the o-ports - the 100P does have a smaller sweet spot though. I would strongly recommend it or the Textreme Tour 95 is probably a better replacement for the Tour 95.

Hey! I hit with the Textreme Tour 95, did not like it enough for it to be a viable replacement. Thank you for the recommendation though!
 
I would recommend demoing the Yonex VCore Pro 97. I have had the Rebels in the past, while not as soft as the Rebels the Yonex provides a great old school graphite feel with excellent control also.

Would also recommend demoing the Phantom Pro 100, Phantom Pro 100P and Phantom Pro 93p.

I have switched to the Yonex now but also played with the Phantom Pro 100 for considerable period. I just prefer the firmer feel of the Yonex, but IMHO you can't go wrong with the frames I have mentioned coming from Rebels/Tour 95.

PS - Also in Australia and can do a deal on a Phantom Pro 93p I'm no longer using. PM me if your interested.

Hey mate, thank you for the response. Do you think the 93p's are comparable in performance to the tour 95? I'm definitely interested. Are the frames 4 3/8? Are they in good condition? How many do you have?
 
Hey mate, I have one in mint condition, grip size 3.

I think the 93p is comparable but slightly firmer feel. I don't think you'll be dissapointed, it's a great frame.

I tried adding one to the cart to see if was a typo and actually out of stock, but it goes through to the payment page so it seems like they still have them. Pretty sure it said 20% off prince as well as they're clearing them
Give 'em a call and see, that'd be sweet if you could get a bunch at $80 each

Hey! I came across that site a while back, called the coach who runs the page and they're out of stock, the website had not been updated in a long time. Thanks anyway!

haha, yeah, you'd think they would've updated it after my phone call... lol. I've tried the TT95,TT100p, Phantom 100, Phantom Pro 100p, and a few frames from other manufacturers, none have matched the tour 95 in my opinion. Spec wise the 93P sounds great, would love to have a hit with it, might be my next frame ... :)

If you are not afriad of smaller head sizes, and would like to try something different, try the yonex tour f93.
Very similar in ratings by TW, just slightly lighter and sllightly lower swingweight, but a little lead fixes that.
 
What kind of 5.5 player are you? Modern baseline basher/counterpuncher? Big serve power player? All court striker.?

The 93P is an all court wizard. I think there are likely better frames for the baseliner that only ventures to the net when forced. There are probably better frames for the big server. But if you like hitting all types of shots from every position on the court, there isn’t a nicer feeling better balanced stick out there than the 93p.

I’ve never tried the Tour 95. But I’ve got a ported phantom and I would say the only advantage of that stick is comfort. I use it on tired or sore arm days. Otherwise it is an inferior racket to the 93p. I don’t miss the ports for performance. And that’s not to say the 93P is uncomfortable. Still better than my PD or Blade by far.

Hey! I have a big serve and big forehand, and one hand b/h. Power based baseline game. Throw slices in here and there while trying to come to the net as much as possible. In other words I like a raquet that gives the best of both worlds, plow and stability while having great control/feel. I don’t require the modern ‘tweener’ as I generate MORE than enough power .

Feel of the Rebel 95/tour 95 is unique. Completely different from current textreme frames.
93p has a completely different feel. If you did not like textreme tour 95, it is highly unlikely you’ll like the feel of 93p.
Actually, PK redondo 98 might be a good option. Low powered and has that low RA “rubbery” feel.
Head size, string spacing and overall mold are very similar (other than ports of course)

I don’t find the Phantom line and Textreme Tour line are very similar at all. I’m not a big fan of the TT frames but I like both my phantoms. I think it’s the thin beam and their weight distribution. But I know not everyone feels similarly.

And admittedly, I don’t play anywhere near 5.5 so I’m the last person to advise someone that good. But I can certainly imagine what I could do with the 93p if I was better. I like the balance of that stick so much. Always know where it is in the swing.

Well, the biggest difference between Tour 95 and 93p is the sweetspot. Tour 95 is not as dynamic in the top of the hoop. It is much sweeter when the balls are hit lower in the stringbed.
93p (and all Phantoms) respond better when the ball is struck higher in the stringbed. That is a CTS legacy. This is why I just did not like 93p and prefer racquets with a lower sweetspot.
I am sure that I could get used to it, but never cared enough to put the time and effort into it.
I have also noticed that 93p is beloved by players who at one time or another played with a tweener as their main stick. This would make sense as they would already be used to hitting a ball higher in a stringbed. I prefer old school sticks with higher static weight, moderate swing weight, where all the power was below the hoop centerline and top of the hoop is just dead.

Now when looking at the two on top of each other, the hitting area is very similar.

Hey, thank you for your detailed response! I was also looking as Pro Kennex as a couple of their frames, Redondo, and KiQ Pro Tour 330 seem like viable alternatives to the tour 95. Since you have both could you please tell me the difference in grip shape? Is it obvious? I love the 'square' prince grip shape...?
 
I have the previous generation Q Tour 325 as well. Q tour has more power and is a bit less maneuverable than Redondo.
Here is a pic of all 3 buttcaps. PK grip shape is less square than Prince, but it’s not as rectangular as Head and Volkl. It is probably most similar to Wilson.

(The top racquet in that pick is Tour Pro 100 ESP. My Rebel 95 is 1/2, and I just wanted to make sure all of the grips are same size (3/8) for comparison purposes)

I am not that sensitive to grip shape, but after shadow swinging in the living room, there is a noticeable difference. You can definitely feel the long side.

That might be a big part of it. I loved my PD+ 2015 that had a definite high frame sweetspot and I definitely tend to hit higher in the string bed (remnant of my squash days perhaps). So the 93P and the other phantoms feel better for me than the Textreme Tours.

I know a Malaysian goods store that has tour 95 in stock, however only two left in stock. Should I send the link?
 
I am nowhere near your level of play (equivalent 4.0) but I have just bought a 93P and couldn't be happier with the frame. I was taught tennis in the late 70's / early 80's, so play with a classic technique: eastern grip forehand, mostly sliced OHBH and will come to the net to finish points. I hit a heavy ball on my forehand and lots of kick on my serve. There isn't a part of my game that this racquet doesn't suit. Power level is low, which is OK as I can generate my own. Control is the best I've had with any modern frame I've hit with, which I attribute to the 18x20 pattern, and is quite a revelation. The racquet feels comfortable with Hyper G at 48 lbs, but also really solid and extremely stable. I am quite surprised by the level of forgiveness in a 93 sq. in. hoop. Seeing that you are a serious player looking for a midsize frame with a 18x20 pattern, and you are already familiar with Prince (especially the grip shape), I'd say this is a must try.

Ordered mine from TW Europe, as TW US won't ship to HK, and have just placed an order for a second one. The only countries outside the US where TW US can ship to are Canada and Australia, so in your case you can order it from them directly.

I may can find a new Rebel. I know a shop that has one I think. It’s 18x20 string pattern, right? It may not be the one you’re looking for, I’ll try and get picture next week.
