Pro Hurricane Tour Tension?

If you see my signature, I play with SPPP @ 55lbs in my DNX V1 MP stick.
After reading several threats about the string Babolat Por Hurricane Tour, I decided to give a try to this string. The main reason is because I believe this string could increase my spin potential.
Considering your experience, which tension is better to have a first good experience with PHT and 17 gauge?

Try it at mid tension recommendation - e.g. the 55 you use and then you will have a good comp. to your SPPP setup. One note. Pro Hurricane Tour is a good string but it loses tension quickly and becomes a bit mushy. I tended to cut it out after about 3 good sets if I hadn't broken it. I switched over to ALU Power Rough... great feel and spin and a bit better tension retention. However, I've now moved over to a little know... Dunlop Dynamite. Great string that offers very good spin and holds tension far better than either PHT or ALU.

My $.o2 on this string from experience using it would be this. It tends to lose some tension pretty quickly (the warmup or first set) after that it stableizes and stays pretty steady for some time. I feel better than any of the Luxilon strings. I have not used SPPP but I would recommend that you string it at about 57-58 to start so that as it drops tension you will end up at about 55.

If you are going to use it I agree... string 5 pounds heavy. Also, don't bother with pre stretching... dosen't do much.

Well if you're already using SPPP why not try out the hextreme version of SPPP. That way you're still using a familiar string with some spin qualities.

I already tested hextreme but losses tension quickly. I´m very interesting to test this babolat string. Its reviews seems to be very promised for my game style (spin, spin and more spin).

I use hextreme and it doesn't seem to lose that much tension in my frame. Though I do notice the tension loss was greater in a 16x18 frame compared to my 18x20.

i marvel at the number of club players who use poly strings. its an incredible wonder what advertising can do.

I´m a club player and in my case I use Poly for these reasons:

1. I´m a chronic string breaker and multis are nice but last few days.
2. I play w/ lots of spin and polys strings are very adequate for this kind of game.

Man, you must hit hella hard or hit with crazy topspin to pop PHT. I find that the PHT plays better in The Roddick PD, I tried it in A Fischer Mag Pro and Head Agassi LE and it had virtually no feel (esp. in the Head). I never had any problem with tension loss or string movement. I used to string PHT in the PDR @ 55 main, 57 cross; I strung @ 45 main, 47 cross in the winter playing indoors.

I think i am going to go back to poly because it always me to take huge cuts at the ball and get massive pace and spin and stay in.

PS 85 user. It could also have screwed up my shoulder but i dunno, same thing happened last year though when i was switching tensions and gauge at the same time..

PHT is a great string. I would not string it above 60lbs, the strings snapped whilst stringing or either broke in the frame within an hour of hitting. I now string them at 58. There is some initial tension loss (for me not as great as others report) but when the strings begin to notch they play great, can take big cuts at the ball and the resultant spin is awesome. I felt that the strings were a lot stiffer than the PH that i used before which i used to string at 62.

I have an adittional doubt.
I already have a couple of PH sets @16 and I start a local tournament on Aug 4th and I´m not sure if I should change to PH right now or wait to the end of the competition.

PRO´s: "Every broom sweeps better". If I find a great/good difference, this circunstance can booster my game. Just a physicological factor.

CON´s: My shots could change bacause of the effect of the new string and my confidence get worst.

What do you think?

I've used PHT 16 gauge on my PDR. It was TERRIBLE!!

It played alright at first but later it lost tension dramatically. I strung it at 59 lbs at first but i'm pretty sure it dropped down to like 50-52 lbs. So, the balls went flying due to the low tension power poly on an already powerful racquet.
It definately provides great spin though.

If you're going to use it, get the 17 gauge and string it at 62+ lbs.
I don't recommend it though.

Definitely get the Luxilons. They're so much better and holds tension better too.

PHT is much stiffer than SPPP, so you should compensate by going just a few pounds lower.

So anyway, were they really dangerous threats, or just the meaningless ones? ;)
