Pro Kennex 7G - rattle in frame?

JGads

G.O.A.T.
Been hitting with a 7G demo and there is a lot to like about the racquet, particularly the amazing ease with which you can blast serves. But the demo I have rattles a bit, like it has sand in the hoop or something, though I can't necessarily feel it while in the heat of play, just when I dry swing it and such. I figured this was a defect from being an old frame that's been used a ton, but then I saw in an old thread someone talking about a rattle of the 7G being part of the "technology" of the frame -- so is this rattle normal for the 7G? Like would a new frame actually have the same rattle? Seems odd.

I just bought a brand new one of these last month and it has the same swishing sand sound when air swinging. What racquet are you coming from if you don't mind me asking?

Normal for the any of that line 5G, 7G ... etc. Also in Ki line

Enjoy..:-) Great frames. The 7G can deliver some heat on the flat serves

Seeing if anything intrigues me enough to get away from my YT Prestige Mid, which I love but I'm wondering if there's something less demanding and that can accentuate my power serve. Threw the 7G into my demo as a total wild card, because I'd wanted to see what an extended frame would feel like but so many of them have weights and swingweights that are beyond what I'm comfortable with. The 7G was still in my range. Really impressed with the racquet, though there has been some adjustment hiccups on groundstrokes where I feel it's a bit clumsy.

The thing that really surprised me is that I always thought Pro Kennex frames would feel very soft - too soft, perhaps - since they have such a reputation for being arm friendly. But the 7G still has a very crisp feel which was really a nice surprise. Now I'm looking at Pro Kennex a little more, now that I know their frames aren't too pillow-like.

Wondering about the 5G, KI5 and KI5X now, but it seems like there a LOT of people who think the new KI series doesn't have as good of a feel as the 5G and 7G series. Any additional thoughts on these frames, Pro Kennex users?

No 5G demo! Shoot. Curious about the KI5 and 5x, but a lot of people seem to really prefer the feel and control of the G series, so no way to try it, it appears, unless you buy it. The clumsiness on groundstrokes with the 7G wasn't all the time, just on certain approach shots and such where I found myself a bit jammed and then hit an error. I'm sure a lot of that would be adjusted over time. The best part was really on serve. I tend to hit up at the top of the string bed on regular frames when I come through quickly, and with this frame those top-of-the-bed shots still plowed into the service box with ease rather than hitting the tape, as they often do with standard length frames. My first-serve percentage is unreal with this frame. Still trying to find the groove on my kickers, but had so few chances to do so since the heaters kept going in.

The Donnay Dark Red is still probably my favorite new demo of what I've tried lately, but this 7G is a solid second and really makes me think more of the Pro Kennex line.

What grip size 5G are you looking for? I have several and could part with one, if you wanted to buy one, to help you out.

Appreciate the offer, Hominator, but probably not looking to buy just yet. Think I'm going to try the new Ki 5 and 5x, even though some say the feel is worse. (of course, some apparently like the added pop).

The Ki 5 and 5x intrigue on paper because they're pretty much right in line, spec-wise, with the Aero Storm Tour GT, except for having a little less stiffness. The AST was always one of my favorite demos. Anyone here ever compare the Ki 5 (or older versions) to an AeroStorm Tour?

Sorry about chiming in with bit off topic question, which doesn't really deserve a thread - Can 5g be strung two piece?
The TW description says "One piece stringing".
Thanks

I've always strung my SMI 5Gs 2 piece, no problems 3 years running. I'm to set in my ways and too much of an string experimenter not to go hybrid. I've had a Klippermate nearly since the company started.

Yes-you can string 5g 2 pc. also 7g i have both..

yes you can string 5g with 2 piece. also 7g..

That "Salt Shaker" sound is the kinetic material ratling around inside the frame. Totally normal. I got see it when my old 10G SMI cracked while I was stringing it.
We're all familiar with bubble wrapping right? Everyone loves to pop the bubbles. Imagine a long single row of bubbles, Inside them is where the Kinetic sand is placed. Then that row of bubbles is inserted into the frame. So there's no "Sand' that is actually floating arond inside the frame, it's encapsulated inside those little bubbles.

They're great frames, I have three 5G's and I usually string them one piece.

I like the 5g, but I like the ki5 better. It has a stiffer upper hoop, so balls hit near the top of the frame actually still have a chance of getting some steam on them. Don't get me wrong, the 5g is a great stick. A little lead at 2 and 10 will cure most of the dead feel at the top, but I still prefer the ki5.

Steve... how much lead did to add at 2 and 10??

Thanks buddy!

Would you mind taking a picture of that?

I would love to see it.

Unfortunetly, I tossed that racquet a long time ago. A shame too because it was a really good frame. It was the Old 10G SMI. Almost all glossy black, beautiful frame. If I could find another one in 4-5/8 I'd snap it up, but they're almost impossible to find.

What did the kinetic particles look like? Sand, or maybe finer than sand?

How full was each air bubble with the particles?
