Pro Prince Original Graphite MID users???

Spadea uses the 110 with a 107 pj. Hmmm I havn't seen many POG users lately. And it's impossible to pj them b/c of the cross bar.

More players on the men's and women's pro tours used the oversized version than the midsized model.

not sure what size POG this is, but the string pattern looks a little bit
tighter than 14 x 18.

POG OS:

Men:
Michael Chang
Andre Agassi
Vince Spadea

Women:
Gabriella Sabatini
Monica Seles (i think she used the POG early in her career)
Jennifer Capriati (i think she used the POG early in her career)
can't recall any pros using the POG mid.

Capriati in the Juniors used the Wilson Pro Staff Midsize and then started her Pro career with the Prince Lightning 90.

The men that come to mind who had used the Prince Graphite 90 at one time was:
Thierry Tulasne
Thomas Enqvist
Mark Knowles

I just looked him up. He still has an ATP singles ranking of #1420.

He's 41 years old now and had a high rank of #61 in sept of '92.

Other POG OS users:
Joey Rive
Kathy Rinaldi(?)

Other Mid users apart from those listed: ???
Alex Olkhovsky, late 90s?

i think raymond's had a different string pattern, though. a little denser (maybe like the exo3 graphite?) there were some POG mids a few years ago on the bay that had that tighter pattern. the seller said they were made for a pro. i always assumed that pro was lisa raymond. from pics on gettyimages, it looks like she always used the the 4-stripe up until 2000, when her sticks got the TT graphite pj treatment. pics of leander paes show that he used the 4-striper, then got the straight-shaft pj up until his switch to the pure drive around 2003 or so.
kirko, did paul goldstein use the POG mid before the precision graphite 640 pl, or is that the racquet you're thinking of?

I think O. Rochus used it last year... I remember his match as USO against Blake, could have been the longbody though.

he sure did ! >

Didn't he rock with the Donnay Pro Cynetic 1 and variants thereof ??

he switched over after a year or so, and have to correct myself he used oversize POG Pat Dupre used the POG mid before that the magnesium pro mid. when he was director of tennis at Caesar's palace after Gonzales left.

I saw Elena Dementieva practice and play during the Fed Cup finals at Stanford in 1999. She played with a Prince Original Graphite; I think it was a mid, but I only remember that she used that line of Prince. She played with the same racquet in 2000.

Incidentally, I found this thread after searching for reviews of the Prince POG mid. I brought two racquets to a match with a friend recently, and quickly broke both racquet's strings. My friend lent me one of his racquets, a POG mid strung with poly, and it was a spin monster and fun to hit with. I had to adjust my strokes, but have a lot of respect for that racquet.

She had used the Prince Graphite Oversize

The mid is useless without lead. So unstable compared to the OS.

Really? Love the POG 93 compared to a POG OS one stripe that I picked up fairly recently. Obviously it depends on your game and stroke style but the 93 head is plenty big enough already in my books... but some of the Prince 110 frames were actually smaller, closer to 102. Is this the case with this line of frames? Wasn't there also a monster 125 sq in POG at one time?? Cheers...

There was indeed a 125. The "Series 110" designation for the OS line, once they had a MS line, was a matter of rounding up, like Head would do with its 630 and 600 sq cm frames. It wasn't really deceptive; head size measurement more precise than "standard"/"mid"/"OS" wasn't a priority at the time. (Prince did use the term "midplus" for a while for its 93 Graphite, but it was the same mold.) The Graphites came in at about 93 and 106. Some other "Series 110" frames (Spectrum Comp, Graphite, Comp, Magnesium Pro, probably Precision Graphite) were more like 103, and the Woody might have been even smaller.

They really got it right with the 80's Graphite. Offhand I can't think of any racquet that has been so highly regarded for so long in multiple sizes.* I guess it is sort of odd that so many top players used the OS and so few the mid, when both frames were almost universally beloved.

* Volkl and Fischer have probably pulled it off, now that I think of it.

I noticed that some companies measure he outside frame instead of the actual sting surface. I checked with my prestige mid comparing it with my friends k90. Same size.

... is the POG 93 actually 93 sq in, or closer to 90 sq in - or 95 sq in? How can you actually measure this?

Here is an excellent thread by, Jack & Coke. he measure several frames:

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=295535

Won't be able to string up my T90 until later this week.. sorry.

In addition to remeasuring the head size areas of my original pro staff scans, I scanned a few more racquets as well.

3rd Analysis of original high resolution scans:
  • Pro Staff 85
  • K90
  • KPS88
1st Analysis of new high res scans:
  • T-2000
  • Pro Staff 95
  • K95
  • MAX200G
  • POG Mid (90)
  • POG LB (100)
  • POG OS (110)

He completes this test on several frames, including the prestige classic which comes out to 88 sq inches.

be sure to check out the entire thread.

the spectrum always gets mentioned. but what about that other cheaper flexible classic prince Tricomp 90 - 110. really don't make those type of rackets anymore. shame. :/

Reviving an old thread here but yeah this is the 4 stripe mid plus, my favorite frame, along with an older 1 stripe 90 they just rule on the court, nice weight, good balance, just the whole package...

But they are string eaters!!! Gotta be ready to restring often! :)

Peter Doohan famously beat Boris Becker in the 2nd round of Wimbledon in 1987 with the Prince Pro Mid. I knew Peter, RIP. He went on to make a deal with Prince and got every one they had left. I still remember him playing with a bright, shiny Prince Pro Mid on clay courts in the early 2000's. At first glance, I thought it a new model but no...it was the same thing he played with forever. He was a nice guy too.
