Pro Staff 97 countervail or Babolat Pure Drive Tour 2018

hi, whats are your toughs about this 2 rackets. They have similar static weight, balance and swing weight. Will they feel or play similar?

Pure Drive: Good for power and spin, but a tad hard to control. Harder on the arm, for sure, but easy to swing. Beginners through advanced level players are welcome to use without many issues, as long as they can handle a stiff feel. Beware, though...people on this forum have had issues with Babolat rackets particularly because of their stiff feel. Good for baseliners who like to hit hard shots with the same power and spin.

Pro Staff: Leaning a bit more towards control, with a lesser amount of power and spin. More comfortable than the Pure Drive, for sure, and similar swinging speed, but a bit of precision is much more welcomed. Intermediate through advanced level players should find this more than capable. I think it's more suited towards players who don't minimize their game to pure groundstroke rallies, but to people who slice, volley, and finesse more.

PDT is a pure baseline basher. PS97 is highly versatile and works in all facets of the game. Good at everything. Allows artistry and creatgicic. Angles, drop shots, touch shots, etc.

Depends on your game and what you enjoy.

My son prefers the non-countervail PS97. Unfortunately they are not going to make it any more. Only a few online retailers and Wilson online still have it in stock.

What's the difference? The specs are the same if I recall correctly.
I have 3 ps97l but they are so countervail. Never used a non countervail version before.

The countervail version is a lot more muted which took away a lot of the feel you got from the non-countervail version. It's more of a preference thing really. Some people love the countervail version, and some people hate it.

I play with the 97l but lately I have been playing against better players and it feel light, unstable and underpowered. I just bought a used ps97cv it will be delivery by Friday. I want to test that one and the drive tour. I'm going to stick with Wilson for now. Thanks all for the help.

I think that will solve most of your issues. You could weight up the 97L, but it's quite a bit stiffer so I think you'll enjoy the PS97CV more.

Thanks, I also ordered a leather grip and some tungsten tape to play around with the 97l weight.

My son needed some new PS97 rackets. He had 5 but two have stress cracks and the other three felt dead. He tried the CV and said it felt more dead and had less power than his old ones. The non CV PS97 felt mower powerful and stiffer. I have to agree after hitting with it. Based on that we bought three of non CV PS97 rackets.

Tough one. If you're used to a 100" head go with the PD. If you're not, then go with the 97. The only caveat is that the PS97 is infected with CV while the PD is not. So the answer would be to stock up on non-CV PS97 if that's what you like.
