Pro Stringer Claw 2.0

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new claws and how much of a difference they are to 1.0? Are they worth the extra $10 over the old ones functionally?
One of ours has been abused and dropped once too many time.

The older 1.0 version required you to use a screwdriver to adjust tension. In the new 2.0 version they added a thumb-screw.

So what's the difference in the 2.0 and the 2.0+ ?...they both say they'll handle 7-21mm string gaps. Is it just the paint job/finish they're wearing?

it's the adjustment screw. One you need a screwdriver to tighten and loosen the jaws. The new one has a dial to do it.
Steve, the original Pro Stringer Claws (1.0 I guess is what they could be referred to as) do need a screwdriver for adjustment. The latest, greatest 2.0 and 2.0+ iterations are exactly the same and look to me that the only difference is the physical color of them…choice of chrome on chrome or black on chrome.

How would these improve my stringing experience if all I use is the lowest-end gamma progression stringer with the included stock gamma flying clamps?

35€ more for the 2x 2.0+ pack, only for different color? Really?

There are only the original claws and the claws 2.0. The 2.0+ version of the claws is chrome plated instead of black. In the US both are about the same price. To me difference in the claws and the claws 2.0 is like night and day. I don’t mind the screwdriver adjustment on the original version. I even think I’d like it better than the thumb wheel. But the design of the claws 2.0 IMO would appear to be easier to move while stringing. If I were in the market for more claws I’d choose the 2.0 version hands down.

EDIT: If you get the 2.0 version of the claws they only about $5 more than the original version in the US, but you get the added advantage of not needing a medium and a large claw. The large claw is $10 more than the medium.

The 2.0+ is black on the website...

The pro stringer claw 1.0 comes in 2 sizes medium & large, The claw 2 shows one size only
That is very true. I bought 3 claws when I got mine, 2 Ms and 1 L. The cost of those 3 clamps is &149. You get 2 clamps that span the same distance of the M and L combined for $105.

Personally I like having the 3 clamps when stringing the mains. I can usually clamp the penultimate main with an M clamp and the last main with the L. As far as stringing crosses I think the new 2.0 / 2.0+ version would be hands down better.

The 2.0 is silver and the 2.0+ is black.
2.0+ is black chrome plated, (not painted,) and I assume the 2.0 is still polished aluminum. Both will function the same, but for $40 less I would go 2.0 claws. And for $40 less for 2 x 2.0 claws compared to 2 Ms and 1 L 1.0 claws I’d choose the newer version.

Does they have the same weight?

i do not have the 2.0 or the 2.0+ claws so I can’t measure the weight but there is a chat option on the Pro-stringer site where you can ask.

EDIT: I do know the pro-stringer 1.0 M and L claws do not have the same weight. Not sure how the compare to the 2.0/2.0+ claws. Minimal difference at best.

Might be a little cornfusion on the color as it pertains to the 2.0 and 2.0+…the 2.0 clearly shows an all chrome finish for the inside machined piece, both outer side pieces, and lever. The 2.0+ shows to be chrome finish on the inside machined piece, and the two outer pieces and lever being the black finish. At least on my iPad Pro’s they're shown that way. The 2.0’s are $105 per set of two, the 2.0+ are $140 per set of two. Not quite sure that fancy black finish on the outer pieces and lever of the 2.0+ quite justify a $35 dollar bump for the same exact thing as the 2.0’s...that’s a case of cold beer and a family pack of wings for the grill the way I’m doing maths.

Seems like there’s a lot of misinformation generated by people that have been misguided looking at pictures on a web site. If you’re going to buy claws I’d suggest you call pro-stringer and get information straight from the seller so you know what you’re buying.

…or how ‘bout just use a big dose of common sense and buy the $35/per set cheaper version for the set choices of the new-fangled 2.0/2.0+ style claws. That oughta do it.

I did it and I'm waiting for Bryan to have clarification.

If it’s the PS website, it would be logical to think the photos represent what is being sold.

No?

The nature of modern online commerce is such that you are not required to call and talk to somebody to get details. They are provided on the website.

Im about to find out. I have a X-2 and just got a set (M, M, L) in 1.0 yesterday.

The profile is smaller overall and much easier to clamp and open. The M’s clamping area are smaller than the stock composite and the L is larger.

I’d imagine the clamping pressure is a little more gentle. Sometimes with gut or multi’s I feel like the stock composite grips them too tight and I can see that on the strings.

I’ve got the same setup almost. I have an X-STRINGER, 2xMs, and 1xL. I haven’t used it in some time though. The claws require less pressure than the composite clamps.

I'm sure the PS folks won't like the comparison, but seems the dial is a "homage";);) to the Stringway adjustment dial. Now I wonder if Stringway will made a "homage" with the variable width clamp!

Yes. I use it for the bigger gap open string bed racquets, like the last string on the frame.

Well, the variable width allows for less pulling of the strings when clamped. This supposedly affects elasticity of the string, but my own tests show no difference is tension detected by Tennis Vibes app, Stringmeter, or Racquetune. However, in my blind test, where I had my kid string 2 sticks, one with the StringWay clamps, and one with the PS Claws, which I then played with. Once broken, I then asked for the reverse done, switching sticks to remove the stick as a variable. I did this 4 times, and I picked the claws strung stick 3 of 4 times. As flawed tests go, I was convinced, and the kids like the claws too, so we use it all the time.YMMV!

Has anyone tried Pro-Stringer Claws 2.0 and 2.0+ ? is it worth paying $35 more on 2.0+ compared to 2.0 ? Which will you suggest Pro-Stringer Claws or Stringway Triple ??

Hi, 2.0+ is black and 2.0 regular silver. Not so much difference except paint job. I personally have the 2.0+ but the regular one is the same I guess.

Between Pro Stringer's and Stringway I personally prefer the claws 2.0 over the double and triple Stringway flying clamps but some others used to string with Stringway prefer Stringway clamps. Stringway double flying clamp is nice to start mains. Triple is quite bulky and not suited for every string pattern. I personally love the claws 2.0 for cross strings. It is so easy to clamp and don't move strings as much as Stringway's. So versatile and easy to use.

Thank You, I am now leaning more towards Pro Stringer Claws :)

The difference is esthetic. The aluminum does oxidize and lose the sheen over time. The chrome plating helps with keeping the lustrous shine, but also shows finger smudges a lot more.

I went with the 2.0s. I got a pair of doubles which I use for the crosses. I can only say I didn’t feel like spending the extra. I also have two Stringway triples and a double. I find myself using the Stringway triples most of the time on the mains, and occasionally the pro claws if the spacing is wide. I use the pro claws for all cross work.

Speaking of smudges, I just cleaned my Claws in the ultrasonic cleaner to get rid of the poly coating on the teeth. The cloud of junk coming off the claws is quite shocking. And we clean the teeth every month! I'm going to have to figure out a way to dunk the teeth portion of the clamps only in the cleaner. I forgot the claws have a pad on the arm. And it's probably better to strip the claw after, to dry and put silicon gel in the screws etc to prevent seizure.
The oils on our hands does leave residue on the claws.
