Pro Supex Blue Gear/Big Ace Hybrid!

So I am going to experiment a hybrid of Pro Supex Blue Gear 1.25 (mains) and Pro Supex Big Ace 1.22 (crosses). I strung it up just now and will hopefully get to hit with it tomorrow. Here are some pics for those who are interested:

To clarify, this is stung on my BB11 racquet. I was going to put red Big Ace crosses, but thought it would be too much color with orange/blue/red. This blue/white setup actually looks nice.
When stringing the Big Ace crosses, suprisingly I felt the rough surface of Blue Gear between my fingers! Blue Gear is really sharp.

Will let you know how it plays tomorrow!

PT63, I dropped my APDC off a the stringer tonight. I'm going with BG 1.28 mains at 54 and Cyber Power 1.25 crosses at 52. The guy from pro supex suggested it and I had a free stringing credit so how wrong can it be. Unfortunately, we have freezing rain in the forecast for tomorrow so I will not be playing. :(

I am glad to see someone else experiment a poly/poly hybrid. It will be 15-25 mph wind over here so I won't be playing my best for sure tomorrow but that is nature. Oh well. Hopefully you will get some clear skies on the weekend.

PRO...

my next racquet will be the BB11... when demoing it, i was wondering how BA would play with the BB11's string pattern... plus i was thinking of a good string to help w/ spin... soooo, this looks very interesting!!! :)

PT, I bottled out of it! I thought about the CP crosses for awhile and drove back over to the stringers and swapped out the CP crosses for Titan. I'm already playing with full BA 1.17 for the 1st time since this summer and thought I did not need any more change. Let me know how it goes. The guy at *******depotplus said it was a great combo.

JCS, what other string would you consider besides BA in the BB11? I guess you might want to consider with a thinner gauge b/c the tighter string pattern. One last question, if the MG Prestige Pro had a "normal" shaped handle would you get that instead of the BB?

I used to play with K-Facotor six one 95 18X20 and I had the same string job. The BB11 is a very nice racquet, nice paintjob, great build. The pattern is also a 18x20 so you might want to string a pound or two looser.

You ruined my day :(
I guess you make a good point: If ain't broken, don't fix it!
My normal job is full BA 1.25 but this is an experiemnt. I highly doubt I will switch to this unless I really really like it. We'll see in a day or two.

My wild guess is the textured string will cut into the smooth one, shortening the stringjob's life. But I could very well be wrong.

Damn PED--I was hoping you would be my guinea pig on that setup! As you know i am still enjoying my BG/Titan. Good combo IMO. I plan on trying my next stick with BG 1.25/Titan 1.30 all at 54#. Does the 1.25 BG have a little more pop than the 1.28 or is it minimal?

PS--Just looked outside and its snowing in Cola SC!! Yeehee

absolutely not! :) there are many good qualities about the Pro. i will demo the MGP Mid Plus, eventhough the string pattern is dense, it may be more to my liking... talk about liking, i really like the BB11. this is a 'tennis' racquet! grip shape is close to Babolat, feels nice. the string pattern plays well. what does the BB11 dothat the MGP Pro does not...(IMHO!!!:) ) here yah go ~ bb11 better SW and balance for me (feels a touch more head light and swings with pure confidence), better control, period. the bb11 does not get pushed around the court, holds very well anywhere on the court... for me! serves better. and most of all, plays best near the net... for me :) the MGP Pro has a stiff feel all around, not bad... the Microgel stuff seems to be doing its job... (but the racquet still twisted when put to the test - hard serving, return of big serves, net play)... but the BB11 has the stiffness just right and in the right places, really dialed in. the MGP Pro iw ould weight up @ 3/9 o'clock... the BB11 for me would need a leather grip, then that might be it (just ot make it a touch more HL). in the looks department the MG wins, nice PJ. Head constructs very well made racquets. for me the edge goes to the BB11, best all around between the two.

the BB would play nice with some BA in there... only if it came in orange!

cool, thanks !!

when playing the K6.1 95, i like dht e serve it has, and the return of serve, but the heft would get to me after awhile... doesn't feel as nimble as the BB11... i think the BB11 does all this well and is easier to play with... ()i know this is a string thread... but what do you like about the BB compared to the K6.1?)

I found the BB11 to give me more control on off center shots. Another thing is that my slices were sitting really low and I had never hit slices so good. What color are you using Big Ace with BB11? I think maybe the lime yellow color might work good in the orange racquet??

When I pick up the BG/titan tonight, I'm going to drop off my PST: it's full CP 1.20 at the moment, but I'm going to try SPPP 1.18 mains and Xcel Crosses. I just can't get it to work with the full CP in there. I was playing really well with the PST with BA/Titan so a hybrid with some pop works well in that stick.

I think the premier ace comes in orange! When I was playing against a really heavy hitter yesterday I was getting pushed around a bit with my APDC, so I broke out my son's aerostorm. That stick is a hammer: you can really step in and just paste the ball. Sounds like the BB is a good stick. They sell them at our local ****smith and they let you demo them free on the indoor court, so I'll give it a shot.

haven't got the BB11 yet... need more demo time with it (plus waiting for another stick to come out so i can demo it)...

the lime yellow...could work... the pearl white (which i have some) should do just fine too :)

Yeah, the Pearl White looks nice. It is kind of like a "dirty" white color. It is not the milky white like most strings are.

it's a definite try... i'm going to try the aerostorm, too.

ok, i apologize guys, but Premier Ace is closest to what other string?

what gauge (for best results) has anyone played PA?

^^^ Premier Ace is low powered and it is significantly different than Big Ace. I would say Premie Ace is the most similar to Pro Hurricane.

So got to hit with this setup today. Well, it was windy (20mph) so not easy to play. I can say for sure though that I was getting some heavy spin on my shots. My forehand would land pretty deep most of the time even when playing against the wind. When I went to for the flat (winner) shot, I had no problem at all.
This setup is just as soft as my normal setup. I did not feel a difference. I hit a few drop shots and they hads tons of backspin. I hit maybe like 30-40 serves. Flat serves were not a problem. I hit a few kick serves out wide on the ad side and they had some good kick to it. But with the wind factoring in, it was not very pleasant to play.
Overall, a nice setup. I played 2 1/2 hours. Still need some time to compare it more closely with my normal setup of Pro Supex Big Ace 1.25.

I'm a poly/poly hybrid user. Got CyberPower 1.25 in the mains and CyberFlash 1.25 in the crosses of my Yonex RDS 001 MP. Best setup I have ever used. I was skeptical at first, thinking it would be too harsh, but in fact its very comfortable. Tons of accessible spin and this is coming from a flat hitter. Took about an hour to settle in and since then it has been consistent for over 16 hours of play. I always liked CyberFlash but did find it a touch too crisp. The CyberPower softens up the string bed while the CyberFlash crosses damp down some of the CP power. I bet a Blue Gear/Big Ace hybrid will play very similar.

I have been interested in trying a CP/CF hybrid but am worried it would be too low powered, but I imagine it would be a control machine. I have considered a CP 1.20 52/CF 1.25 50 setup--problem is my past experience with full poly is little pop/depth on serving due to shoulder issues:cry:

Kcraig,

You should consider trying a Blue Gear/Big Ace hybrid. It is playing quite well. Good spin but and there is some nice feel from Big Ace.

How long does the hex shape last? I've read some reviews on msv hex, they said that the hexagonal shape does not last long.

^^^Instead of a hex shape, there are tiny little ridges built into
the string that bit into the ball: these are the "gears" hence the name blue gear. Mine lasted several weeks before wearing down then it plays just like a normal poly which still means plenty o spin.

so about 20 hours? thanks for the quick reply. I really stoked about the reviews, I just got some BA, did not know they had BG until after I placed my order, maybe next time.

^^^but even after the gears wear down, it's still very playable. The blue colour is very unique as well, I've never seen anything else like it.

Got back today for another hit. It was not windy. I actually had a good day so was able to test this hybrid. Spin is surely great. Out of 3 hex shaped strings I have tried (Hextreme, MSV Hex, Blue Gear), the Blue Gear definitely provides then most bite. You know, I ran my hand across the stringbed and felt the rough surface plus ridges. Feels interesting. And this is only on the mains, i cannot imagine how rough it would be with a full job. I had some nice backhand slices. My seve today was powerful. I was able to hit some nice flat out wide serves on the ad side. So far treating me nicely.

PT, I had my 1st hit today with my BG/Titan and agree, the spin is nice. Slices were particularly good.

I've just finished stringing up one of my MFil 300s with BG 1.19 mains and BA 1.17 crosses. Will post pictures soon. But for the time being, all I can say is that it looks spectacular!
