I totally agree. With my BG/BA setup, I was hooking balls like crazy stunning everyone on the court with wickedly angled cross court returns. On one occasion during doubles matchplay, my opponent served wide from the FH court and my return landed well within his service box about 6 inches from the doubles line. Insane.

Can't wait. What tensions would you reccommend for my buddy. He is a pretty strong 3.5/low 4.0 player using a Head radical 100sq. He usually strings syn gut @ 60lbs. What do you think for the BG/PPS setup and how do you think it will play for him??

I'd be inclined to start off at 55-56lbs for him.

I'm still seriously depressed that I didn't like BG more then my Bab PHT. After reading all this info, I still am a little stunned that I still like my PHT more. Must be because it is stiffer??

Don't be stunned. Just be glad that you enjoy your tennis and don't let your equipment bug you. If you play well with PHT, then rejoice in that! :)

I'm not letting it bother me. The BG was more of an experiment for me. I was really happy with my setup and knew it would have to be incredible to pull me off of the PHT. I am trying BA as soon as I break strings on Saturday.

alright guys, so i tried out big ace 1.17 in my ag300, and i don't mind it. I haven't played with it much yet but it has good spin and great power. I just don't think that i am used to thin strings, but i will get used to them. Also, when i start to play better, i will give a more in depth review.
ps. Did you guys find you get a lot of vibrations with this string when you hit?

This is not really a pro supex story, but I was talking with a fairly high level 14 year old player yesterday. She uses an 03 white with BB original mains and XXX Lightning crosses. I think she uses the XXX because they come in pink, but i asked her how she liked her poly setup because most of the girls around her use syn gut. She said she loved the action on the ball, but it killed her arm everyday. Man, if she's hurting like that at 14 just wait til she gets to be my age. I wish she'd hook up with some big ace as that could solve a lot of her problems, but it's not likely. Her coach is the same one I use and he says that she takes 9 hours a week under him. I did a little quick math and that comes up to around 23k a year. That's some serious jack.

Hewitt, I like you enjoy the BA 1.17 but it does take some time to get used to it. BA 1.17 is the one string I find i do like better in the thinner gauges, and I'll be able to give a better review myself when I try it in a hybrid as opposed to a full job. In the end, I liked the thicker gauges in BG and CP as opposed to the 1.19 and 1.20 versions. I guess it's all personal preference, but I actually found that the thinner versions play a little bit harsher, but maybe it's all in my mind.

Just like Anthony Hopkins said in some movie w. Alec Baldwin....."never feel sorry for someone who owns a plane!"

That girl using poly and her arm hurting now is like these 8-10 yr old boys trying to throw curve balls and end up having Tommy John surgery at 15--DONE!!!

I think that explains it. Luxilon is a horrible choice for her. Her arm pains will cause her to get injured by college. That is not good. She should reconsider Big Ace. Your hybrid of BA/Titan might work for her as well.

I've been getting in a lot of playing time this week with my BG 1.19/titan hybrid and I'm coming around to really like it. One issue I discovered today was I have been using a different shop lately to do my stringing. They use a Prince electronic constant pull machine. I was talking to a guy today who strings at both shops I use, and he mentioned that I might want to drop my stated tension by 2 lbs when getting it done at the store with the constant pull machine vs the other store that uses a Prince Neo I believe. He said that was the adjustment he was making for his personal sticks when stringing at the different shops.

I guess my earlier view of BG 1.19 was a little bit biased as my stick was around 2 pounds heavier than I like. Either way, I really like the 1.19 BG but still would go for a thicker gauge in everyday use.

The grooves are really starting to wear out on my BG 1.28 and no matter what anyone says, I really feel the grooves getting more easy spin when the string is new. I can still get plenty of action on the ball but I believe the grooves make a difference :)

i have big ace on the mains at 56 and maxim touch on the cross at 58. i like it but it seems to be a little too soft. should i tighten the mains/crosses? or use a different cross string?

I was just sent a free sample with one of my orders. Gave it to my Dad so not sure how it plays. Word I got from the Supex guy was they were wanting to have red syn gut to match up with red Big Ace colorwise to have that full red look. Alex also sent me a new multi that was very, very nice!! Both may be coming out soon I hope:)

Just got finished with my first match using BG 1.25(mains) and PSGD in the crosses. I really like the feel of it. I got excellent ball bite especially on the serve and i could really feel the gears biting into the ball. Touch shots around the net were superb as well. I just received my sets of Titan and BA. So I will be looking forward to stringing up the BG/Titan and BA/ Titan to compare.

I'm hoping the Titan will soften up the string bed more then the PSGD, so I can increase the tension a few lbs.

I'll be very surprised if you don't really like the titan. It's a good bit softer(multi like) over psgd so you should be able to move things up a few lbs. I've still not played with the 1.25 BG since last summer. I've been using the 1.28 and 1.19. I look forward to giving a go once I break my 1.28 hybrid. The power level with the 1.28 BG/titan is dead on. You can really hit nice heavy deep balls.

I definitely I'm going to increase the tension by 2 lbs on both Ms & Xs, with the Titan in the Xs. It played well at 48/52 but it had just a touch too much power. It was good power though !. I'm thinking about just going to 50/53 or so and see how it feels/ plays. I initially went a little bit lower just to get the feel of BG. In the past with other poly strings at 50lbs, They made my shoulder sore. At 48 with the BG my shoulder feels good.

Better to be safe than sorry robkat. I'm running the BG at 54 and it feels fine. I've actually used a full poly job of BG at 55 and that was fine as well. I'll likely drop my BG tension on my PDR to 53 or 52 next time to compensate for the stiffness.

PED, is the BG really that stiff, keeping the tension down? (or is the string tension racquet/set-up specific?)

stiffness-wise, what would you compare the BG to?

J, I don't find BG to be uncomfortable at all. I would compare it to goat cheese: some people love the taste of goat cheese (I love it) but some people are really turned off by it. BG seems to inspire love or dislike and not much in between. I would say BG is around 12 to 15% stiffer than BA. They say BA and BG are made of the same material but it feels totally different. BG is miles softer than something like alu power. I have used BG as full poly and thought it was good and not stiff: on the other hand, I find CF to be really stiff.

I don't know how well BG would work in the BB11 but it would have been $$ in something like your pure controls. I have a friend who plays full BG at 64 in a KZen and he's 60 yo and has no arm pain at all.

The only dilemma I'm having and one that you can relate to is dialing in the right tension on the PDR. It plays well with almost any setup but I notice a pound or two more in the pdr than i do in an apdc. Finally, I prefer playing with usually 53 to 55 on poly mains as I just like the feel more and don't have a problem spraying balls. I've never gone down sub 50 :)

Got me laughing hard on that one!!! I watched the video again earlier--funnier everytime:) I played again this after with one of my young 19 yr old boys; used the BG 1.25/Titan and, you guessed it: beatdown!! The gears are pretty worn after 9 hrs, but the playability and spin is still damn good! I am getting alot more string movement now, but no biggie.

i always set up my PDR with NRG2... usually over mid tension... always felt great! that string just rocks in that frame... very good bite, vg pocketing, vg control with a whisper of power to-boot!

GOAT CHEESE!!! :) ever tried crusted goat cheese that's seared (slightly melted) over a nice bed of bitter greens accompanied by a nice Cotes du Rhone... oh, man! this will be on my wife's Valentine's day dinner menu...!

I'm glad you mentioned CF... BA will go into my BB11's first... but i would like to hybrid BG with something (i have a bunch of X1)... if it [BG] is not as stiff as CF, then that helps with how i have to set up the X1 in a hybrid!

Cool, thanks!

Just got back from my initial hit with BA1.25 /Titan 1.25. Impressive !.. After hitting and playing the last few days with BG/PSGD I was looking forward to the BA/Titan combo. I wasn't disappointed. I was very surprised to find out how well Titan soften ups the string bed. When I was stringing it up last night, the Titan felt very smooth, soft and very easy to string. The BA played soft too. Now that I have used the Titan, I can't wait to use it in combo with BG. My Son who refused to use any string but Kirschbaum Super Smash Spiky over the last few years is a convert to BG, He loves it. I asked if he wanted to go back and use Super Spiky and he said ..."No !!, I like this string (BG)" !. I can really see how much more action and spin he is hitting with using BG. When I finally get my tension set for both the BA/Titan and BG/Titan it is going to be a tough choice of which setup to use. If the Titan softens up the string bed with BG as well as it did with BA, I'm really going to like it. I might cut out out my BG/PSGD and install the BG/Titan tonight. I'm really curious how it will play.

Rob: I'm glad the titan is working out for you! There does not seem to be as much buzz around titan as the other supex products but I think it's a great string. It does an even better job softening up the BG stringbed than it does the BA string bed as the BA is so soft already. I think you will really like the BG/titan combo.

I've used both 1.25 and 1.30 in the titan for crosses and they both work well. Now that I've dropped down in size to 1.18 or 1.22 mains I might start using the 1.25 more. Glad your son likes it. I finally (!! $$) converted him from alu rough to BA but he still finds BG to be inconsistent for him. He likes things a bit tighter than I do so that might explain that.

Seriously, I have not played with BAM but I have played with BA 1.17 which I would assume is within a gnat's hair to the BAM. I liked BA 1.17 so much that I ordered 3 sets of it. I only played it as a full job in my PDR, but next time around I will give it a run with titan crosses and see how it stacks up with my usual setup.

You could easily use it as a full poly job as it's quite comfy but I think it would be really nice with a good soft cross. There is a good amount of "energy" in the stringbed and it feels like you can get some really good action on the ball. It also comes in red which is nice.

Now that is low. 50 worked for me with the BG. This is as low as I have ever tried. Going to stick there for a while.

I was totally kidding, but I do like the lower tensions-have been using all of my latest polys between 52 and 55 and like them all better at the lower tensions. I have tried the following in the last several months:

1. Blue Gear--we know I love it!
2. Cyberpower--#2 on my list right now
3. Big Ace-also a very nice soft poly
4. TCS--OK, but I think i had it too tight, but at $12 per, it is out of the running.
4. PHT-nice string but too pricey compared to the Supex strings.

All of these are great soft polys, but for the $$$ you just can not beat the Supex strings!!!!

My problem is that I have such a personal inventory of blue blue gear that it will take me some time before I can even consider the platinum. I still want to give cyberpower another go. It's not that I disliked it, I just expected it was going to be better than I thought. The 1.20 CP never felt right to me in my PST but BA kicked @$$ in the same stick. Oh well, I'm looking forward to some nice weather this 4 day weekend (oh yeah!) and hope to get some good hitting in.

I still like the idea of that low tension BG that WAO is using in the Extreme. One of my friends uses an extreme pro with full poly at 63. that hurts just thinking about it.

PS: Our defense is so bad, they couldn't protect a **** pie at bake sale.....I need to watch it again tomorrow.
