Pro Supex initial hit

I just bought two packages of Big Ace, so I'm going to be testing them out soon. Or hybriding them, not sure which yet. I also have Kirschbaum P2, Alu Big Banger Touch, a couple of sets of Gosen Micro, and Tecnifibre X-1 Biphase.

Any advice on what to try first and suggestions for hybrids?

I occasionally get one right. :)
My problem is that I have such a personal inventory of blue blue gear that it will take me some time before I can even consider the platinum. I still want to give cyberpower another go. It's not that I disliked it, I just expected it was going to be better than I thought. The 1.20 CP never felt right to me in my PST but BA kicked @$$ in the same stick. Oh well, I'm looking forward to some nice weather this 4 day weekend (oh yeah!) and hope to get some good hitting in.

I still like the idea of that low tension BG that WAO is using in the Extreme. One of my friends uses an extreme pro with full poly at 63. that hurts just thinking about it.

PS: Our defense is so bad, they couldn't protect a **** pie at bake sale.....I need to watch it again tomorrow.
So is platinum just a pearl color, no difference?

Is Big Ace a polyester or a copoly?

From the ProSupex Web site: "Big Ace is the only co-polyester string today that combines the comfort and power of a synthetic gut and the durability and control of a traditional polyester string. Big Ace is a monofilament co-polymer and has special monomix-reinforced chemical additives."

I have tried Speed Ace which is just as good as the Maxim Touch. I'm sticking with Maxim Touch for the time being as it's a much nicer looking multi.

I've also just tried Pro Supex's New Kevlar 50 which brought back fantastic memories of my 8 year romance with kevlar!

I was amazed with the performance of Kevlar 50 as it felt so much livelier and comfortable than Crossfire and Ultra Thin Blend. It was also reminiscient of Gamma's TNT2 Fusion Plus which was a fantastic aramid, but cost a bomb. Kevlar 50 is so much cheaper and my customers who have been long term kevlar users have permanently moved over to Kevlar 50.

From what I understand, Speed Ace is made in exactly the same factory as Isospeed Professional ...

So what exactly are you saying Jono?? ;) LOL I have heard good things about the isospeed and I imagine that the supex version should be more affordable.
I look forward to trying that one out. How is it compared to titan?

BTW, WAO, the impression I got is that Platinum is just a pearl "ish" neutral colored version of BG which sounds kinda boring to me especially when coupled with battleship grey titan crosses:-?

Lloyd, I noticed the same notching my butter soft titan is actually notching the BG.

K, I was down in your neck of the woods today. I just drove through Columbia at 9:45 tonight. I was coming from Greensboro, GA where the weather made me wish I was outside playing today: 73 and sunny. I spoke with one guy today at our meeting who was flying out in the morning for Jackson Hole, WY. I was envious enough and even more so when he said he was flying on his Gulfstream. Like you said, never feel sorry for someone with a plane :)

I have been in a very informative, interesting and extremely BORING Continuing Legal Educ. seminar all morning!! It has been wonderful down here, except it raining today:( I am about to restring my BG 1.25/Titan setup this week as the strings are losing some life and my 4.0 singles season starts next week so I would like to have a couple hrs on them before playing. Will go with the same tensions cause there is no real need to change anything--Oh my God, did I just say that:confused:

^^^It's kinda boring keeping everything the same but I'm in the same boat. The setups are working so I'll stick with them... :)

Now that I have mine somewhat dialed in just ordered BG and Titan.

WAO: are you going to stick with the tensions listed on your signature? Also, overall, which stringbed offers a softer overall feel: the BA with the NRG with softer string but an overall higher tension or the BG with PSGD with stiffer string and lower tensions?

IMO I would say the the BG/PSGD at a lower tension. At that tension I had all the touch that I needed. It actually felt very soft for what it is. The only change based on your recommendation is Titan in place of PSGD but still at the 50/53. In the past I was one of the guys stringing at the upper end, good thing as we get older we sometimes get wiser.

Wao, I agree. My present setup is BG/PSGD 48/51. I plan to change out the PSGD and install Titan in the crosses and going up to 50/53 as well.

^^Thanks for the feedback, rob and wao. I don't know what I'm going to do tension wise. Right now I'm 54/56 in the BG/titan. I might drop to 52/55 and do the drop in stages. I imagine I'll really like the lower tension. The only time I've used 52 before is in my PST and it's a bit softer and more low powered than the PDR but I really liked BA at that tension. I did it as 52/54 with the titan...I still don't know why I switched away from that setup....

It's always a good idea to increase or drop in stages. I went from 55 - 59 (BA/NRG) to my current setup. Definately larger than I would suggest when I string for my bud's. IMO I think you will like it slighty lower.

Fun with BG

Some pics...

Cool pics!! I really like that. I was dropping off sticks today for the BG and I always love having people scratch the ridges with their fingers. Most people have never seen anything like it. J, are you sticking BG in the BB11?

WAO, I couldn't pull the trigger on 50 pounds even..lol. I went alu rough mains at 51 and titan at 53 for my storm and for the PDR, did 52/55: BG 1.25 and Titan 1.30.

I cut out the 1.19 Bg today. It was starting to notch pretty good plus I'm playing on clay this weekend and want the extra action off of the 1.25. I'm glad I tried 1.19 BG but I would put it below BG 1.25 or 1.28 and below BA 1.17 and 1.22 on my fav scale.

Oh yeah, BG is going in! :)

J: 2 questions 1. Did you do the goat cheese for the v day meal and 2. what tension and gauge on the BG?

1.25 for the BG... no racquets yet!!! still in transit!! UGGH!

and yes... delish!!! encrusted with roasted almonds/bread crumbs/spices... baked until almost melting, served over a nice bitter green salad w/ warm bacon and a dijon vinaigrette/// man i'm full from dinner (and a little hazy from the bubbly)... i out did myself this year.. i should have my own cooking show! :)

Yeah, sounds good. We had a iceberg wedge with chopped cabbage bits and rocquefort blue cheese dressing, but the problem was they didn't candy the pecans and so they weren't sweet enough. Still it was good, plus a cappuccino cheesecake for desert. I'll have to work it off on the courts at lunch tomorrow.

You're making me drool here!

Jono, the problem with all that food was the richness: i don't usually eat so heavy and I only had 1 beer but I woke up this am feeling like I drank 12 pack because we ate so much!!

Just got my BB11's... one I strung w/ BG 1.25 m's 55lbs- BA 1.22 x's.... the other CF m's- X1 x's....

the BG/BA after stringing left my finger tips sore... :) you can really feel the BG as you're weaving! then moved to the CF/X1 set up and the X1 was smooth, man i was cruising on that stick...

stick one strung w/ BG-BA is 7gs heavier than stick 2!!! Great, more head games!!! ;)

J: Can't wait to hear feedback on the BG/BA. I think PT63 really liked that setup. I'm looking forward this am to alu rough/titan at 50/53 in the good ol PST. It's going to be 70 here in charleston today!!

^^^ i think PT was on to something w/ the BG/BA set-up ... can't wait to play it... will play tomorrow, some of your warm weather will creep up here for a bit!

Wow... look at that tension! 50 in a PST! :) i want to hear how that plays! i bet you get some serious dwell time and spin w/ that set-up in that racquet ;)

J: your pix are a work of art! Nice lighting and the string looks hot. I hit today with Bg 1.25/Titan at 52/55 and it was nice. I got more action on the ball with BG 1.25 than w/BG 1.19 but not as much as with BG 1.28. Still, overall a great setup.

Well, the good news is that I loved the 50 lbs in the PST, I usually string it at 53 or 54 but 50 was fantastic. I don't think I would string BA that low as it's so much more comfortable than the alu rough.

Now, the bad news for me at least. I saw Jollyroger describe alu rough as grey crack and I think he's right. The dwell time was great, the power was dead on and the control was perfect. The sound when hitting the sweet spot...oh baby. I almost wish I hadn't played with it because I liked it so much and I am not wild about paying 14.50 a pack...lol. I know that it's not new news that lux plays great but after using it in the pdr a few weeks back, I was surprised at how well it worked. I guess I need to revisit cyber flash or cyber power at 50 or 51 for the Cf and 52 for the CP.

Thanks WAO for the idea on dropping the tension, that was a $$ idea.

JCSTENNIS: I have the exact same combo in one of my sticks. I got the Blue Gear in the mains and the white Big Ace in the crosses. How are the BB11 sticks treating you?

ZWEET!!! I really like the look of the combo. I'm presuming they are beige Big Ace crosses.

Seeing DNX evoke lots of fond memories. I used to play with the C10 Pro for 8 years and after having used so many racquets, Volkls and the current Dunlop Aerogel series have the best QC and paintwork. They seem to resist knocks and nicks.

Here's my thoughts...

After not really caring for BG with my Tonic cross I think that I'm getting more pop on my serve from PHT because it creates a stiffer string bed. I'm thinking of trying full BA because it's softer then a full job of PHT which really is tough to play with. I'm going back to full Poly I think and I'll see if that works for me. I need something with a little less juice then my Tonic cross. I think it has a tendancy to let the ball fly just a tad.

yup, that's the good ol 1.22 beige! :)

I remember seeing pics of you Volkls some time back (ummm, new C10 coming out soon :) )

The pics look good, but i screwed up my last main and in the pics it looks so flat! Uggh!!!

I'm excited about the BB11's, nice comfy stick with good control, balance and feel...

yup... knowing the PST a little, ALU R dropped to a lower tension would work well with a stock PST... i have an idea of how it would feel cranking a big forehand, feeling the ball hang there for an extra millisecond and then 'pop'! almost like winding up for a wrist shot in hockey, the ball/puck just stays there until you release! ...did you serve with it? did you feel that you had to change your swings due to the tension drop?

Lloyd: I know, I know, 4 nil is a bad beat down!! But manu deserved the result and all I can say is well done! :)

J: you really hit the description dead on in your comp with a hockey shot, that's exactly what it felt like. Serving was nice and I got some extra pop with the lower tension but I have always enjoyed serving with it. Do you think I could replicate the feeling with CF mains at 50 or is that just wishful thinking? I did not alter my swing, in fact, I was getting so much bite on the ball that I was almost swinging harder. The last setup I had was SPPP/Xcel and the alu/titan just blew that away.

if the ALU holds up, tension-wise, and you can get a good price or trade for it... then CF may not be a factor... i have CF with X1 BiPhase in one of the BB11's, i'll see how that plays. i put CF, full job, in my PST to tone down the power a bit, strung it at mid+2 and that was good for me, but from what you have experienced with a lower tenx, the CF may react well with that stick (i guess i never hybrid'd CF until today, so i'll see :) ) i also have some Pro Supex Poly Control, i haven't strung it up, looks more like Big Banger... if that string works (and it's priced close to $5... it may be a winner).

now every time i respond to one of your posts, all i can think about is cappuccino cheesecake!! Ahh!

What gauge were you using inthe Alu Power Rough? I am going to drop my tension a little on the 1.28 BG setup next time--may go down to 50/54 with the Forten sweet crosses--whatdaya'll think?

Do let me know how you get on with the BB11. Somehow my wanderlust with tennis frames is starting to warm up ... :)

The alu only comes in 1.25. I hit with it only a little today as my son used it most of the time. I was hoping that it would not be as good....I was mistaken. However, my BG 1.25/titan was working really well, so I can't complain. I do wish I'd ordered 1.28 instead of 1.25. I really can't believe it's that big of a difference but there it is. I'm debating doing sppp/titan in the apdc at 50/53 and see how that works.

Man, that alu was so sweet today. The issue is that I think that the alu/titan might just be dialed in on the flexy pst and might not work as well for me on the stiffer pdr. We were playing 2 on one and I was able to just RIP some forehand winners and the feeling was so satisfying.
