RR used to be my favorite event. I can’t pick exactly when that changed. 2010 maybe. I don’t know. There just are not any stars. The next guys look like kids at my local ymca swim team.
in 2010 there wasn't such a definitive gap in who was mid card and who was champ material. If 2010 was the year that got you off edge won the rumble that by chucking Cena out last year but there was a handful of guys that could have won just the same.
Taker and Shaemus were champs and faced Rey and Orton respectively. But CM Punk, HBK, Trips, Jericho, and Batista could have all won and it could have worked. 2010 was also the year Beth Phoenix elimated Khali.
Sunday it was really only going to be Braun or Rollins, or a Roman come back. So he element of surprise and suspense is gone. Add in the fact the Braun and Seth both got layed out and seemed to rest for 15 minutes in the middle of the match made this year extra lame.
I like your 2010 theory though because I think 2011 was that odd 40 man rumble and after that it started getting thin. with 2 belts on the line that essentially 2 extra big names guys that would otherwise lend and air of randomness and have people wondering the results.
While they say the Rumble is used to push a guy that needs a pump, nobody ever wins that not an established guy. Minus hacksaw winning the 1st one (which I dont think had the title shot stipulation) the 3 biggest shock winners are probably Mr. McMahon (made perfect sense story wise through) Mysterio (just because his size) and Shinsuke (WWE hates foreigners or actually any non white guys that are not the rock or related to the rock).
