Problems with Prince Recoil

I have a customer that provides me with the above string. Despite clean and adjusted clamps on my Revo, I have yet to successfully get the mains started. On both occasions the mains have pulled through the clamps and shredded (even with a starting clamo as a backup.) Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

I have used this string with out a problem by using both machine clamps and the staring clamp on the first pull. It really shouldn't slip on you like that, I would adjust the clamps tigher.

I think one of the main points of that string is to be very slick so it slides back into place after each hit. I hadn't thought about it before, but it makes sense that it would slip through the clamps fairly easily.

It's also supposed to be pretty soft, which means that as you pull it, it will probably thin out a bit. Give the softness and the slickness I would guess the clamps may need to be adjusted to about 2 guages smaller than the gauge of the string. So if you have 16g, adjust the clamps to what you would use with an 18g string.

Aka, Clamp the heck out of it! Slippery strings are no fun =/ I share your pain.

The double clamp sounds like a great idea though. As simple as it may seem I never thought to do that!

The two extreme mains (on either side) just came loose once after I got my frame strung. The knots have to be done carefully because the strings are so slippery. So now my stringer leaves extra string at the knots and makes sure they are really secure.

Apart from that it is a great string. Comfortable, and does not move.

I learned from the initial time the string pulled through the clamps that the coating came off and gacked up the clamps with the slippery secret ingredient. My fear is that if I torque up the clamps tight enough to hold the string that the coating will do like-wise.

The gore-tex based coating will take a firm clamping without a problem n my experience of 1/2 dozen set. I tie a triple knot<Parnell with an extra half hitch> to secure the string.
