Problems with VCORE pros.

So i have been using the VCORE pro 97 310 since April and have had great results. I’m currently using hyper g 16 @ 54lbs with 2gs of lead at the 12, size 4 1/4 grip with a Yonex super grap. I bought two rackets in April and a third in December, but i have noticed that the one from December is significantly different. The grip size is much larger than the other two and i feel like i cant hit through the ball with it as well cuz it feels less solid. Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks.

There is a good possibility that Yonex grip size has been changed.
People were complaining about bigger grip size then Yonex reduced to almost normal size similar to prince and Wilson.
Probably your second racket might be old one which might be bigger. Check your serial number and track your racket’s manufacturing date.

You either have a different type of grip on the dec one also if it’s a new grip it’s not compressed like the other 2. Another possibility is sometimes the original yonex grip leaves behind the double sided tape along with some grip material and then if you wrap a replacement grip on top it makes it larger. If you change everything on all 3 to have new grips and it still feels different. Could be a racket balance, swing weight or even both issue.

If you have a measuring tape (I use the paper ones from IKEA) try wrapping it around both grips to verify. Otherwise, just use a strip of paper and mark where it comes full-circle, then flatten it out and measure with a ruler.

My friend is a V-Core guy, and he bought his 2 at different times. Even though they look identical, He can tell by feel if he’s hitting with his “good” one I’ll ask him if he’s having similar issues with his grips.

I currently own 6 Yonex rackets, have owned about a dozen more, as well as tried a handfull others (all recent models, AI and upwards), and the grip size has been consistent for grip size 2 and 3. Fwiw; I feel the difference in size between using two diff types of overgrips, so I have no problems feeling the diff between diff mfcs, diff grip sizes or shapes.

Ime, the main difference between the mfcs, is:

- grip shape (round vs rectangular)
- butt cap flare
- level of compression in the grip (due to grip material)

The times I've actually measured grip size, most often just above the flare so that measurements are comparable, they've all been spot on.

F.inst. the first version of the PS97S had a leather grip with almost no flare at all. Grip size 2 felt like somewhere between 0 and 1 to me. But I measured it, and it was spot on. I then built up a flare, using small strips of athlete's tape, and then it felt like a Wilson size 2 again; which doesn't feel as big as Head's size 2, to me, but that is surely affected by your preference in shape (one type wilson/prince/head will feel smaller compared to the others, depending on it).

Kimguroo...
You mentioned that Yonex has reduced their grip size to become more aligned with other manufactures..
Is this true?? I hope so..

idk if this has anything to with it but the serial numbers on the april ones both start with 09 while the december one starts w 10

I bought 3 over the course of 3 months from three separate retailers (to use demo credits) and they are all within 1 gram of each other with identical 4 3/8 grips. Others have said their QC was pretty good so I'm surprised to hear about variability but it's certainly possible.

could it be that all that extra play on your older rakets have flatten out the grip?
the new raket should feel "a bit thicker", since its fresh and the grip is still in original condition!?!?

Always been the case with YY frames. They make some amazing frames so if that is your only issue, it’s worth addressing and fixing.

The best way is to do what Stan Wa does and wrap some 1/4 inch medical tape around the bottom at the base layer. Then you add your overgrip. A decent amount of pros build their butt ends up, with the most dramatic being Gasquet.

Anyways, the Stan trick worked for me with mine.

As for grip size, check the base grip. YY uses a super thin, paper like base grip that thins down with usage. The thing I hate about that is if you replace the grip with anything else, it usually makes your grip go up a size. Kind of annoying, so you have to plan ahead there.
