ProKennex Black Ace

I play with a really ancient ProKennex Black Ace racquet and I like the racquet except for the fact that it's been long discontinued (and it is impossibly and deceptively heavy...). If anybody has hit with this racquet before, which (more modern) racquets is it similar to? I really like serving with this racquet as it is very solid and stable IMO, probably due to the weight... but i have to move on. There seems to be mixed feelings regarding the PS Tour 90/95, which are the racquets I'm hoping to demo. any help would be nice. thnx.

Anything is going to feel light after the Black Ace. I have one that tips the scales at 14.1 oz. I still use it to help keep my strokes honest (and build some arm strength).

I would suggest taking the leap and moving down into the 11-11.5 oz. player/tweener frames. They will feel real "whippy" at first but you'll grow to love the racquet speed you can generate. If you get one that is fairly head light it leaves you a lot of room for customization using lead to build up the weight and adjust the balance if you decide stock is just too light for you.

PK 5g (my choice) is a great racquet in this category, as is the Babolat Pure Control, Prince Tour Diablo and PK Laver series. There are many more that fit in this category, all with their proponents. Have fun demoing.

I think you'll find something like the Estusa BB Pro or Head Classic 600(Red Head) to be as close as you're going to find. The PS 6.0 85 is close in weight, but it's a lot stiffer than the Black Ace, IMO.

I played w/ the Black Ace back in the '80's. Liked it a lot, even put the little lead weight under the strings at the 3 and 9 o'clock positioins. Now I play w/ Volkl C-10's . You need something stable like the player frames from Volkl, Fisher, or even Wilson PS 6.1

I also played with the BlackAce for a number of years and really enjoyed it. I've still got a couple frames in great shape and have been eyeing them lately.
I moved on to the Slazenger ProBraided and feel it is an excellent frame. I also use the MegaAge and really like it.

I'd suggest using the TW racquet finder and look at the specs. of all the Player racquets.

I agree with Netman, the PK 5g is probably the most similar of todays new models and its a great playing stick. You can even add a little lead and still save an ounce compared to your black ace. I would snatch those 2 rackets in 9.5 condition incase you dont want to switch
