This particular racket I dont know much about. All i know is that some lady bought it for 80 dollars in 1990. Can anyone tell me any info on this racket like year, composition, specs? Looks to me that it may have some ceramic. Thanks:)

Isn't this the model on which the Pure Drive was later based? If memory serves, Babolat may even have used the same mold. Am I totally off-base here? Anyone know?

Correct. There were three Destinies (all with the same mold but different composition). The other two were the Ceramic and Graphite - I'm still looking for a Ceramic. :)

PK Destiny

If I am not mistaken, the PK Destiny line was in the mid 80s. Graphite Destiny, Ceramic Destiny, and then the Composite Destiny. I still have the Graphite Destiny and Composite Destiny. I remembered my brother played with a Ceramic Destiny. All were 95 sq in "widebody" Destiny Performance System. Graphite Destiny (100% High Modulus Graphite), Ceramic Destiny (80/20 Graphite/Ceramic), and the Composite Destiny (80/20 Graphite/Fiberglass). I don't remember raquet weights for all three and also, there are other models through the Destiny line through the years til today. I've played with the PK Laver SX a few years back and liked it a lot. Just kept coming back to Prince. I always liked the tapered beam of the Destiny line. Please excuse me for any mistakes but that's about all I can remember.

Best regards,
Joseph

AFAIK, the PD design was based on the Destiny frames and (obviously) not a direct copy. In one form or another Babolat basically paid PK a certain amount of $ to use their design. The result was the PDrive.

There is also a different Composite Destiny made for the European market and also a Copper Destiny, another Euro only racquet I believe!

One more question, Is this a collectors racket like one you hang up on the wall or more of a run-of-the-mill type racket that you can find everywhere?

Is this racket worth the $5 I paid for it?

Yes, based on intrinsic value.

Is it worth it to you? You have to hit with it to see if you want to keep it.

Interesting in its own right, some people collect the line (like Virginia) and it's worth it for them. But in general, it's not a collectors' piece.

If you wanted to go the e-bay route, you could get at least 200-300% of your "investment" back......

BTW - tennis005 you come off as immature. No offense. Just sayin'.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I came across this racquet just today at the local mall here...just wondering how they play...can anybody do a quick review for us? :)

I have a couple of Ceramic Destiny's and a Composite Destiny. I took the leather grip off, put on a ribbed grip and overgrip. Strung, they both weigh 12.7oz.

Anybody know what the tension range is for this racquet? I just bought one and I can't find it printed on the racquet anywhere...it came pre-strung and I want to change it as soon as I can :)

I think I strung mine about 55. I liked the ceramic better than the composite, although I own the composite; the composite has a bit of trampoline effect.

tension range....

53 TO 63 lbs I used the Ceramic for three years, strung at 58 lbs. There was also a AVC series, which I just could not play with, and later a Ceramic destiny 265 that felt more like the original one. I found the 100% graphite model too stiff, while the Composite felt vague.

Pics of my new 'old' toy :)

Just thought I'd share...

I changed the grip (old one is really worn out) and added an overgrip. It came pre-strung like that. Added the rubberband dampener.

In this one, there seems to be a clear rubber thing on the bottom hoop that isn't on the pic at the start of this thread. I'm assuming it's a vibration dampener of sort. Any ideas?

Printed on my CD: 55-65.

I strung it with Yonex 850 Pro @ 60 -- plays great.

If this is the second generation of the frame, with the vibration control strips. It should have the same type of strips at 3 & 9 o'clock. does it have the letters AVC anywhere on it?

Nope, no such strips at 3 &9 o'clock...and no AVC letters anywhere...another thing different with this one is that the racquet cover is black compared to the OP's white cover.

I have one of those Composite Destiny's and used it in a couple of my league matches this year. I also have one of the AVC models (Advanced Vibration Control). Basically, it has little rubber string dampeners at 3 and 9. It may also have something in the handle, I don't know. They're just a little heavy for me at the time. They are 12.7 oz strung, with an overgrip. My limit is about 12.3 (for my shoulder's sake).

Yeah man I remember these rackets played and hit with all 3 the graphite the ceramics and the comp. very powerful stiff frames all of them are in the high 60's for stiffness id assume . And really heavy I remember the balance was weird on them except for the graphite destiny it was fairly head light . I was hoping to find that my assumptions were wrong when not to long ago came across a comp destiny . Hoping it was mid 50's or lower RA . I never had it " spec'd" in a rdc but it was very stiff and even balanced . Was hoping for a head light flexier pure drive feel . To me it felt very similar to a foam filled feeling pure drive .
I don't know if it was foam filled but it felt as so . Could have Just been higher quality carbon .. don't know . Solid heavy tank like - stiff . I couldn't keep a forehand in the court ..

Yes the original generation was green and then they offered it in blue. It was the softest of the 3 - graphite ( black) and ceramic ( red) For an 80’s wide body frame it was more playable and not over powered.

Definitely looks ahead of its time shape wise, for something that came out in 1988.
