ProKennex Ki5 Spec confusion

I'm interested in the Prokennex Ki5 Ionic. The specs on the Prokennex Website:

ProKennex Ki 5 Ionic
Headsize: 100
Weight: 312 grams
Flex: 65
Swing Weight 296 (Do they mean unstrung here?)

TW Specs:

Head Size:
100 sq. in. / 645 sq. cm.
Length: 27 inches / 69 cm
Strung Weight: 11.8oz / 335g
Balance: 7pts Head Light
Swingweight: 325
Stiffness: 61

The weight and the stiffness seem way off. Any Ki5 owners out there know the real strung weight and swing weight of this stick? I like a relatively heavy and flexible racquet, so this difference is pretty significant.

Thanks!

If you check some Japanese sites you'll see things even funnier, like 305 grams and 16x19 pattern.

Don't worry, TW tests the rackets strung. And I should think this is a more reliable method.

In fact, I'm eyeing the Ki 5 too.

Anirut,

Thanks for the information on the Ki-5. I guess it isn't surprising that the specs vary. It is on my short list for demos this spring. I tweaked my shoulder last summer. I'm doing better now, but the Ki-5 is on my demo list. I just wanted to be sure it had enough weight. I have bought into the heavier/flexible racquet is better for arm health theory. I'm also considering the following for a demo:

PK Redondo (Mid or midplus. Not sure which yet)
Volkl C-10 Pro (Hit with my friend's C10. It has a sweet feel)
Becker 11

Speaking of weight. How 'bout the weight of that Ki-5 PSE! I'm strong, but that is a hefty stick!

I don't mind the weight of the PSE, but the SW ... oh man!

I normally play a mid size but last night I took out an old Estusa Aero Turbo VIP granny stick, probably around a 100 in^2 face, and it allowed me to be very lazy on my strokes. I could be so lazy that it made me think about getting a bigger head control stick like the Ki-5.

I know what you mean about the bigger head size. I was considering the Volkl DNX 10 Mid, but I really think the 100" head of the Ki-5 or the 98" of the C10 will be more forgiving. I used a friend's C10 Pro recently, and the sweet spot seemed huge. It also had a lot of pop. I only hit with it for an hour or so though.

Well, I should think PK's 100" head may probably be around 98".

This is just a guess only, as PK's 93 & 98 in heads are actually 90 & 95 respectively. However, the Core 1 No. 6 says 95 and it IS a 95.

So ... I think all we could do is measure PK's head sizes against a Wilson or a Volkl to get much closer to the actual size.

I have a Ki 5 and a 7G. While the flex of 7G is listed as 65 on some sites, 7G is definitely more forgiving than Ki 5.

Some of the Pro Kennex Ki5 numerical differences may be due to "unstrung" vs "strung" specifications. If I am recalling correctly, the PK manufacturer specs were unstrung.

I think their most arm friendly frame is the Pro 5G. It is just like having a physical therapist in your bag. The Ki 5 plays a little stiffer than the Pro 5G (I have had several of each, along with a Laver S and both Redondos). I have a Pro 5G in the FS Forum. I told myself that I would keep it forever, but it is just sitting in the closet unstrung. My Vantage frames (soon to be five) have just spoiled me.

I'm not a ki5 owner, but playtested it for TW many moons ago and have a good recollection of it. It's a nice frame and the swingweight is certainly more like 325. flexy it isnt, but it is pretty comfoertable and hits a very nice ball.....have no idea why this racquet didnt take off..i think it was a fine effort

I was pretty sure that the Prokennex website stats were for an unstrung racquet. I'm looking forward to trying out the Ki-5. I'll probably demo the PSE just to see if I can get around on the ball with it. I'm also looking forward to trying out the Becker 11. I've heard such great things about these racquets. Thanks for all the info guys. This forum is awesome.
