Common wisdom is on a flat serve you swing from the back-scratch position leading with the edge of your racket and pronate right before contact.
But when does pronation occur if you want to hit a heavy topspin serve? I find myself pronating right from the back-scratch position so the palm of my hand is facing the net and my racket face is parallel to the baseline as I am hitting up allowing me to really brush up on the ball.
I can hit a decent ball with a lot of action doing this, but am I pronating too soon and if so, when should I be pronating?
