Hey, im looking to do casual stringing (2-3 rackets a week) since im starting to break strings in 5 hours. I have 0 experience stringing and would rather an electronic stringing machine. I was looking at pro's pro mt-300 and tomcat mt-400. would these be good for a beginner? and if so which one??

I’d rather have a good drop weight than a cheap cheap electronic.

EDIT: First look for a machine with good clamps (and bases) and you will be on you way to a good machine.
do pros pro stringers have bad clamps and bases? How do i know when a clamp is good online?

The Tomcat is generally seen favorably given it's price for an electronic stringer. I assume you are in Europe? I own the MT300 tension engine that I mounted to my own stringer and I am satisfied with it. So I think either machine should be fine.

OP - I recommend you also look at the automatic DW machines from Stringway. Nothing electronic to worry about and built robustly. Everyone seems to want an eCP or high end LO. Stringway owners are generally happy with their machines. SW is based in NL.

A mate of mine uses the mt400. It has great clamps(which I got for my Comet I liked them so much), and has been 100% reliable.
My next machine will likely be the mt400 as I like the table as well.

Oh no, it can not be!!!
Many people have not experienced with these and have just blankety wipe them out and suggested that they are just what…. Therefore you and your friends experiences can’t not be true…. lol

Their knockoff strings are awesome (indistinguishable to me from brand names), so they know about stringing. But I agree with Irvin that a dropweight is better, especially for a beginner.

Well, the cheapest ones they made had terrible clamps. But the new clamps are good. And their top clamps are excellent.
The best thing I did on this Comet was install the T167 clamps. This thing is 8 years old now and no problems(except the original bases were a bit crap). I have about €500 into it.
Are they as smooth as the top machines? No, but neither do they cost $2-6K. And the prices are about to go higher...on everything. Well, for Americans, anyways ;)
One thing we might forget is most of these machines are made by the same companies in China. Many of them use the same parts.
Still, since Murica is starting trade wars, I may buy the Tomcat sooner than later since they have stock in Austria right now.

+1 for a Tomcat fan. When my T167 ever go bust I’ll get a T-190. But I still like the new Xpider clamps that come on the Tournas E850. Seems to operate fast but I’ve never seen any videos of anyone stringing with it. I think Irvin had a video but I don’t think he did it from beginning til end.

I dunno, I do rather like the fact the 167's just unlock when you push the clamps into the base. What other bases do this?
Something I do feel I should mention is I was looking at some sort of expensive babolat and it appeared they plane the rails, which is rather nice.
I do appreciate how smooth the expensive stringers are, I just have other hobbies is all, and friends in other countries I like to visit.
If I had all the money, yeah, a 6K stringing machine sounds great. But I have a fun-as-hell turbo charged AWD Subaru that I haven't even spent that much money on...yet... ;)
