Pro's Pro Strings!?

Decided to play with eruption today instead of waiting a week.

One thing that I already love before even playing with it is its ease to string! Super easy does not tangle, super soft. Hopefully it plays well.

The edges are slightly visible in my phone photos.

I'm a photographer by trade and own a nice macro lens. I'd be willing to take super close up shot of the string if you send me a sample. Only thing is I'd need a 40' sample..for...reasons.

So I played a set with Eruption but I was not hitting well to begin with, so this may be a skewed initial review.

The string produces a lot of spin, that's for sure, and I already hit with heavy top spin. When I connected, I could 'feel' multiple mains just grab onto the ball and snap back, thrusting the ball forward and over to create the top spin I experienced. I played with PP Cyclone Power and the feel I experienced with Eruption was not there, so there's something to it. The string is soft and not harsh at all, but others have reported that it is harsh. When I was able to connect well, the ball easily cleared the net with good pace. Serving wasn't bad either as I was able to easily place the ball on the T and the sideline as I wanted. I believe the gauge I received is 16, maybe 16L, and it feels a bit thick of a string at 1.24 mm and wish I opted for the 1.18 mm. Prior to hitting, I thought the green string bed would be a distraction to me as I'm not used to playing with such bright string colors, but there was no peripheral 'discomfort'.

Next time I'll get a chance to play will not be until Monday with my regular partner, and that's when I'll really be able to compare Eruption to my other setups. Again, I wish I got the 1.18 mm version.

May I ask. Frame? String pattern? lbs?

Well I strung my PS 97 with Eruption 1.24 at 50 and love It. Not sure, even with your frame, If I would go so high in lbs. I was thinking actually to try 48.

I used to string my RF97A 59/56 with a hybrid setup and liked it the most.

My Angell I played around with tensions and found that Cyclone Power at 54lbs was very responsive and I was pleasantly surprised at how it played, but now I'm back at higher tension again with Cyclone. There was nothing 'wrong' with the Eruption at 57lbs, but I'll string it just to see how it plays at 60lbs.

So does any trading go on here? Would anyone be up for trading 40' lengths of PP string? Or multiple sets? I have Red Devil 1.24 and Gutex Ultra 1.30. I'd be interested in Eruption or possibly other polys.

I wouldn't mind trying out 40' of Red Devil 1.24. :)

I guess he changed his mind. If anyone else is down to trade give me a shout.

In other news I just hit about the 10 hour mark with this red devil string job and it's still hitting great. Noticeable tension drop soon after stringing (no prestretch) but has remained stable since. Still haven't had to straighten the strings once. Still giddy about the extra spin I'm getting coming from a tight bed of multifilament for the last 10 or so years. I'm seeing fewer balls coming back because of the extra topspin on groundies and more kick on serves. I regret not giving polys a try a long time ago. I thought my arm would never forgive me, but at low tensions (low to mid 40s) my arm feels better than it has in years.

agree with your findings
i descrive pros pro polys as "feel good polys",
just be careful when trying other polys!!,,
"pros pro red devil", is a stretchy poly,!! and it playes soft, almost crisp-synthetic like,, very good soft feel poly
more expensive polys will not feel like that!!, and will remind you right away that they are polys!!
ime, polys in the low tensions, 40s and 30s, feel pretty good, controlling 30lb poly has its challenges!!

Good to know. Thanks! My experience with polys outside of this one is very limited.

has anybody tried pros pro plus power? it’s supposed to be similar to signum pro poly plasma but cheaper...was wondering if it’s worth its value in almost half the price...

@PedrosCousin
another softer prospro string I found is pp.ichiban.spin, not very aggressive spin wise but its color and texture worked for me, in fact I like ichiban.spin over red devil a bit more
Arent they both different kind of string. Red devil strechy power string, while ichiban low powered profiled spin string like Babolat hurricane tour?

Trading strings with PedrosCousin so I'm itching to try the Red Devil.

As 1HBHfanatic mentioned just above in regards to Red Devil, the Eruption plays very soft. I don't know if pre-stretch would have helped it or not, but it is a crisp soft feel, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

yes, different string constructions, but comfort wise they are very similar imo
not even close to babo.hurricane.tour.. which I hate,,
pp.ichiban.spin looks like it, color and construction (maybe), but its a very comfortable power poly,, with the added bonus of a bit of texture, and it does no stech as much as red devil in the 17g versions
ive tried red devil in:
18g stretches ALOT, not good imo, will snap or stretch too much
17g stretches a a little more than most, not good if you go high tensions, will snap or stretch too much
16g stretches little, still feels good

pp.ichiban.spin is good/stable at 17g

Yes, it is very similar and for the cost of 21 EUR for 200 meters reel it is definitely worth the value...

I had never tried a poly before and for some reason I bought a reel of Red Devil 1.24. I couldn't bring myself to buy a single set when the reel was only $34. I figured if I didn't like it I could offer it to my customers. Previously I was using Gutex Ultra at 57 lbs and with my 16x19 racquet I was breaking it after only 3 or 4 hours.

So I was really curious how I'd hit with a poly. I started with a hybrid setup. Gutex in the crosses and Red Devil in the mains. My elbow had been iffy for over a year (even with the multi) so I dropped the tension down to 50 lbs. It was meh and my elbow didn't like it. Poly didn't seem to be for me. For giggles I strung my racquet full bed of RD at 44. After a little bit of hitting and getting used to the different launch angle and the drastically different feel...I freaking loved it. The extra spin I was getting was incredible. Plenty of power yet sufficient control. More pop and spin on my serve. I didn't have to straighten my strings after every point like with the Gutex. And best of all my elbow has never felt better. (I'm about 3 weeks in with the poly) My game has noticeably improved from just this change. It kind of feels like I'm cheating.

I definitely noticed a tension drop pretty quickly. I'm going to do a machine pre stretch next time. But even after the tension drops it still hits great. I've got about 7 hrs on one racquet and it still feels good and the mains still snap back. I'm tempted to try some of the other polys mentioned here but since Red Devil is generally considered to be soft and my elbow and I are liking it, I should probably just stick with it.
Red Devil is good string. Don't hesitate to settle with it if you like it. I use it for a cross string (1.19mm) with sg 1.25 mains.

Sent Eruption to PedrosCousin so maybe he/she can comment further on Eruption.

The string is holding up well after 12 hours of play, but once again, it is playing very very soft. A very comfortable string, but a little too soft for my liking. Can't wait to see how long it lasts.

In regards to string trades, I don't recommend them. PedrosCousin was going to send me Red Devil but somehow USPS cannot deliver due to postage being incorrect. PedrosCousin apparently used some automated self check out machine at a USPS facility but the postage was less than it should be and now I'd have to pay $3 to receive the string, which defies the concept of a trade. In this day and age where personal information needs to protected, I don't recommend trades.

Are you refering to Eruption? If so, what tension did you string and what's your level of play?
I'm waiting for a reel to be delivered and I'm curious to how long it will last in my stick.
Thank you

Got a set of Eruption 1.18, not yet strung. I can feel, by fingers, edges of Hyper-G and RPM, but I really don't feel any edges at all on Eruption. It is as round as Red Devil, I just compared them side by side. Shame I don't have a macro camera to show it to you.

Edges are there but REALLY not pronounced....

Yeah that's a crappy deal on USPS's part. I sent out string to 2 people using the exact same method. (USPS self serve kiosk) I paid $1.30 postage to send 2 sets of string to @niketennispro and he got it without issue. I paid $1.15 to send one set of string to @letplaytennis and they refuse to deliver it and want another $2.63 postage. I spent over half an hour with USPS on their automated system and finally talked to a person. The support person and their supervisor couldn't explain why they're asking for more $. They said the only thing to do is to have the recipient go pick it up at the post office. I let @letplaytennis know this and told him if they make him pay the extra I would send him the extra $. He said he doesn't have time to do that.

I hope that was a fluke incident and am still open to trading.

As far as the eruption, I haven't tried it yet. Waiting till after my current season ends. Looking forward to trying it.

Well the postage I paid was slightly more than the equivalent of 2 stamps which you would imagine would be enough for something as light as a single set of string. Regardless...I used their machine and their scale to calculate shipping. I put it in an old string set packaging (taped up) and entered it as a "large envelope". Like I said it worked fine for the other guy. I'm sure it wasn't something I did wrong, though letplaytennis seems to feel otherwise. I don't know how he doesn't have time to pick it up from the P.O. but does have time to play tennis. Maybe he lives a long way from the P.O.?

What poly would you recommend as most similar to Kirschbaum Max Power? Something fairly stiff with good tension maintenance.

Based on reading through the thread, I’m thinking either Concept (cheap cheap) or Cyber Power (cheap).

Now i have tried the RX 500 in fullbed and can say that its a winner. I also liked the Hex-Power and will try it tommorow as main 1,18 and RX 500 as cross 1,25.
RX 500 is a softer poly based on 3 types of singel filaments twisted together. Great power, feel and spin with great controll.
Durability is good.
Strung at 24,5 kg. Used to have lower tension (21,5 kg) but because its a softer poly it was to much power so i increased the tension for more control.

Concept is much softer (and quite lower quality) than KMP. I have tryed Cyber Spin, which I suppose is a textured version of Cyber Power. Also this one is a softer string, but much better playability (spin direction) than Concept. But still no way comparable with KMP. Probably a closer option would be Plus Power and Nano Plus Power. They are stiffer, not at level of Max Power, but can get the results you are looking at way less $$$.
Set a couple of lbs more of what you are used to with MP.

Looked It up on the net It looks interesting.

Quite expencive though. Pro's Pro is attractive for its prices. Surprising to see a 60 Euro reel from them.

Anyone bought a pro’s pro hybrid reel. I want the feel of a full bed of rpm blast when brand new, but which keeps playability for more than 6 sets. I string my own tennis bats so the cost of string is my only issue if stringing frequently.

as stated in message to you, send the difference that it would require for me to pickup from post office in an envelope to the original address you send the string and I'll gladly complete the transaction by driving to the post office 2 miles away to pick up the strings.

I haven't had as much time the last 2 weeks to get out and play since I'm remodeling the house, but the Eruption is still playing well. There does not seem to be to much notching happening so I expect the strings to last a few more outings. The do NOT yet feel dead.

Initially I complained about the string being too soft for my liking but I think this could be advantageous when the poly string beings to feel dead.

Tried Hyper-G 1.30 crossed with Eruption 1.24 and it plays damn good.
Snapback is awesome!! And it's really crisp and comfy. Really good power and control. Great touch!
Now I will see how much time I can keep that great feeling... I have a reel of each so it could be really economic!!
More info soon...
