Pro's racket specs

Jura's post of 9/14/05 identified the unstrung racquet specs for 79 male pros from stringing logs at the 2005 French Open. I used this data to estimate strung racquet specs. This is what I found.

The average pro’s racket:
Length: 27.3 inches or 69.3 centimeters
Strung Weight: 12.5 ounces or 354 grams
Strung Balance: 8 points head light or 2.54 centimeters head light
Tension: 55.4 pounds or 25.2 kilograms

Looks like the average male pro is using a pretty formidable stick considering today’s lighter and shorter stock players racquet standard.

I was surprised that 47% of the pro’s used rackets 27.4 inches or longer. I could not find any correlation of length to static weight but the longer racquets were balanced 9 points head light on average and the conventional length racquets averaged 7 points head light.

The data also showed the heaviest racquets tended to be the most head light and the lighter racquets tended to be less head light. Only one racquet, Carlos Moya’s was head heavy when strung.

It was previously pointed out by others that the doubles specialists tended toward very heavy but more head light racquets.
