If Fed used a babolat Pure Drive,

Nadal used a Wilson Pro Staff 85

Djokovic used a Prince 03 Tour

Davydenko used a Head Prestige............

They'd all still be top 10. They're pro's, and the whole racket thing is MENTAL.

I've have been a top College player, and in 4 years I have used:

Prince O3 Tour (lead tape at 3 and 9)

Babolat Pure Control Team

Wilson nBlade

My results have not swayed despite switching, they've remained pretty stagnant.....

Granted if you use a Wilson and you switch to babolat or Prince..it is uncomfortable, especially at first..because we all know 1 thing at least:

Prince/Babolat is for spinny topspin players

Wilson is a stiff racket for flatter, often 1 handed players...

Yonex/Fisher are for girls and 2 handed flat player...

Those are generalizations but besides that within those companies it doesn't matter the specifics of the racket...and let's understand that before we give ourselves heart attacks about wat fed and nadal are using...

Ouch, prepare to be flamed. Like the arguement and agree with it to some point. If Fed tried to use a Babolat using the same form that he does with his "K-90", that ball will go a lot farther out then with his usual racquet. He would have to adjust his technique pretty drastically to do this.

Having the right racket that fits your game is absolutely NOT "a mental thing".

Davydenko actually used a prestige (if i am correct) before switching to Prince O-Tour. After his switch his results drastically improved.

Misiti,

I disagree with you. Fischer and yonex are not for girls. Try telling that to Nalbandian and Kafelnikov. I'm sure they'd woop your A's, and I mean not on the tennis court.

Misiti,

I agree with you mostly. It is definitely the player and not the racket that makes them great. They all just have personal preferences with regards to racket type/weight/power/balance that enable them to play at their optimum. I do agree that if they were forced to change racket brands that they have the ability to make those subtle changes to technique etc and would soon be playing the same again.

Its crazy to think Fed's racquet will make you play like him, but it's also crazy to think that Nadal could go to Walmart and pick out a racquet that would allow him to play in the top ten. Amongst a group of high calibre sticks, some pros may be able to switch and still play as well, but even the great Borg couldn't keep up with his old wood.

It is funny that you mentioned Davydenko. Davydenko did use the Prestige Classic 600 for a time in 2002 and 2003. Then Davydenko switched to the Pro Tour 630 with two different paint jobs before switching to Prince.

Here is Davydenko with the Head Prestige Classic 600 with the i.prestige mid paint job.

i agree on most of the stuff you post. the thing i do not agree on that you said that yonex frames are chick sticks. i would love to see you or another chick weild a yonex super rd tour 90 or r-22 and hit consistantly with it. plus i dont think most women today would be able to last 3+ set using a 12.5 oz+stick like the super rd tour 90 or r-22

so true i would love to see a girl wield a super rd tour 90 sucsessfully

Pro athletes are highly tuned machines. They are more likely to react to slight alterations to their equipment than recreational players.

Many players will be able to adapt to different sticks, while others will have trouble.

Blake was one example that was never able to abandon his favorite sticks. I heard a story in which he had auctioned off many of his old sticks while he was transitioning to a new model. The new model turned out to be different enough that it threw off his game, and he proceeded to contact buy back his sticks from the auction winners.
