pros wearing the same clothes

why do pros only wear one outfit throughout a grand slam tournament
they seem to stick to the same things through every match
i.e.
moya-yellow shirt, black wristbands and shorts, and the same pair of breathe frees
federer and hewitt- blue shirt, white shorts,
nalbandian- orange shirt, white shorts
i also noticed james blake wore the same outift in all 4 of his matches at the aus open

At Nike it seems set in stone. I was looking through a dealer's catalog and there were special printouts for the tennis vendors for individual players. Each showed the specific shirt and shorts, along with the colorway that a player would be playing in the upcoming season.

Agassi was to wear this...Sampras to wear that...Federer to wear this...Hewitt to wear that...I think it helps vendors decide what merchandise to order for the upcoming season.

Good topic, but I don't know that every pro thinks about it all that much (Safin comes to mind) - they just put on what's in their sponsor's bag.

Nalbandian may be superstitious or something, since it's unlikely that Yonex would have such calculated clothes marketing. He wore different outfits at the Italian. I like the Yonex skins, to be honest.

Nike's a whole different animal. Consider James Blake. Before he decided to go bald "for charity", there was probably no more marketable clotheshorse for Nike tennis than JB. No surprise then that despite his middling ranking over the years, he could always be counted upon to wear Nike's freshest gear. This was especially true at the US Open - you'd turn your head and there JB'd be with some double-vented layer tee in acid green and lymon, meanwhile the poor guy's getting overmatched in some 2nd round night match by Robredo or what have you (at least there's still the dubbs!). With Nike, there's always an alterior goings-on, and we like it that way ;-).

At least with Nike they get to choose between 4-5 style and colors. Look at Adidas... zzz...

I'm sure top 10 players get special deals negociated by their agents but for the rest of the bunch lucky enough to be endorsed it's pretty standard. They get a bunch of stuff 5 times a year. That includes everything from shirts and shoes to sunglasses, training T-Shirts etc. They can mix things up if they want to - look at guys like Pavel and Spadea...

I hate it when two opponents are wearing the same clothes, color and all. They could at least put them in different colored versions of the same stuff.

ROTFLMAO!! This is unkind.

Contract/sponsering. They are obligated to where what their sponsers tell them to wear. In the case of Roddick, reebok makes a clothing line specifically for him, which is not the case with the nike guys.
