ProStaff 365g for junior

Hi all,
I'm helping one junior guy with basic tennis and he uses ProStaff probably v7 or 8 which weights 365 g. It's head light. This boy is not too much athletic build and/or have too big wrist.
Anybody has such experience, probably he will get use to it, he plays his first year tennis.

My 1st wooden racquet in 7th/8th grade was as 14 oz woodie. Due to age, my racquets are now in the 12 oz neighborhood. I see no reason a kid should say no just due to weight. Baseball bats weigh more.

You don't swing a baseball bat with one hand.

But you do swing a Pro Staff with one hand. V7 or V8 means it's a 90. Anyone who has swung any iteration of the PS90 will tell you it swings super freely. The weight feels confidence inspiring, not bulky. I can understand hesitation with an RF97 (though I think with proper coaching it is an excellent learning tool as well), but I can't believe the 90 is too cumbersome. If you can't swing a PS90 safely, you have bigger issues than the weight of the racquet.

From what I read here and there, he should be fine, but he'll probably have to add lead tape in the hoop unless he wants to hit like all those wimps who use granny sticks they call modern rackets.

Thanks, all.
BillKid, why need a tape, it's actually Prostaff 97 V12 340 unstrung, it's good head light, where you recommend put tape?

The kid will (have to) learn sound stroke techniques right from the start, it’s a good thing! Also started with wood as a kid, 14 OZ, never considered my racket as too heavy by then. And you should see my strokes !

Thanks, all.

I was joking. This racket is far too heavy. Of course, it's still possible to play with it, as well as with an 85 or 90 headsize. Everything is possible. But especially for a young player, you have to bear in mind that tennis has changed. Honestly, I'm still not sure how serious your question is.

Thanks BK, question is serious, it's real world situation, I see 13yo playing with this, he likes it, his manager probably too. We will count it as exception, with heavier racket will be bit difficult to play but not any health problems.

Unless the 13yr old is large for his age and jacked, the weight of the racket is gonna leave him behind the higher level he plays.

If it’s for fun and he’s having fun - awesome. Keep playing with it!

If he’s serious and has aspirations of competition, then it’s probably stunting his growth. The game has moved on from heavy rackets, and even a post-career Roger moved on too.

Did he actually though? I could have sworn that in the recent videos of him hitting around with other players like Alcaraz he was back to his RF97. Until I see him play exhibitions with the RF01 Pro, I'm not convinced that he's actually moved on.
