Hola! I need some help regarding protein intake for Pre/Post Work Out, and Before Bedtime.

Recently i've been taking some Muscle Milk, that my bro says "It tastes great!" Quite frankly i was like "okay", and it does taste great, but now I want to know the science behind all this "protein".

What I have read about MM (muscle milk) is that it something called "casein", which is recommended to be taken before bed, thus I have read much saying MM is more of a pre-bedtime protein in-take.

What I have also read is that taking 100% whey protein drinks would be more beneficial for muscle gain for pre/post workouts.

Now I need help with is: Is this true? What other things should I be aware of? Any recommendations?

Please don't post if you're just going to say i'm wasting my time lifting weights...

It's been said before, there is no evidence to suggest protein immediately after working out is any better than consuming it as usual. The amount of protein required to build muscle is also fairly low. Someone with actual numbers (maybe .8 grams per pound per day).

the casein protein digests slower so its grat for night time to fiht off the starving of sleep. whey is post workout and ive never been a big fan of pre workout as it upset my stomach when i did.

what brand are u taking?? i think i recommended before, NO-explode, MMA fighters like brock lesnar, take this stuff. however, u cannot use this as a replacement to working out. This is what my friend did, and he's insanely CUT, semi-buff(he was really really skinny) and fast. HE takes it with milk before weight lifting, then goes working out(insane ALL OUT, until u can't lift ur arms) then after all that, go home and drink another one(my friend says 2 scoops) so it helps ur recovery, then the samething the next day. thats what he did and thats how he got his muscles

hoped this help

MMA fighters like brock lesnar

never go by what these guys take. the toll they put on there body is far greater than you guys ever will. there diet needs and yours are gonna be very different. brock lesnar probbly takes many different vitamins and supplemnts but do not use him as an example of what your doing. there warm up is harder than your entire workout so there calorie needs are gonna be extremely high. on top of that the guy weighs 280-290 lbs. he cuts to make the weight. so plz dont go by mma athletes on anything your gonna do diet wise.

Casein is also known as "milk protein" since it the primary type of protein found in cow's milk. It comprises about 80% of the protein in (cow) milk with whey protein being responsible for about 20% of the protein. In human (breast) milk, the whey protein component is much greater -- about 60-80% of the protein is whey.

Watch out for consuming too much protein. The protein needs of athletes is only slightly greater than that of the average person. The protein needs of a body builder is not much more than that at all. Manufacturers and distributors of protein supplements often actively encourage people to consume much more protein than the body needs. The same is often true of bodybuilding websites and magazines.

Excess protein intake can sometimes be taxing on the digestive system. It may cause a state of ketosis. While ketosis may be ok short term, extended periods of ketosis may not be desirable. Note that excess protein might be stored as fat or may simply be eliminated by the body. Many individuals will develop gassiness (flatulence) from excessive protein intake.

that video is kind of scary despite the fact that i've been eatin slight amounts of MSG most of my life cause im Chinese...

But. Okay fine Don't Drink Muscle Milk. Don't overtake the protein.

then what else? :[

Muscle Milk is more of a meal replacement. What you should take depends on what your goals are, though. For pre-workout you might want to take a weight gainer or a protein shake and some complex carbs, and post-workout you'll want to take a protein shake with some simple carbs. If you want something before bedtime, you could just take some casein.

I recommend:

Protein: Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey
Casein: Optimum Nutrition Casein (there are many good products though)
Weight Gainer: Cytogainer, Dymatize, Universal Real Gains
