PTPA accuse officials of failing to prioritize players after late-night french open finish

In a statement, the PTPA has called for a collective gathering to take place so the issue of late-night matches can be addressed. Recently the WTA and ATP have laid out a framework to stop matches being started beyond 11pm unless both the tournament supervisor and players agree to do so. However, the four major events each have their own governing body and are therefore not affected by these rules.

“It’s imperative that Grand Slam and tour leaders, tournament organizers, and players – through the PTPA as their advocacy group – come together to explore and determine a solution for preventing late-night finishes, whether that is a curfew or an alternate resolution,” the PTPA told Ubitennis via email.
“We know that late-night finishes have tremendous negative consequences and force players into unfair, unsafe, and unhealthy working conditions. Yet these late finishes continue to happen because of an unwillingness to acknowledge the issue and prioritize players’ best interests.”

Forgot PTPA existed.

Correct move. The late night matches are bad for the game. There were always suspended matches in Slams (due to rain, darkness or other things), which were continued a day later without problems. They should start the matches at 20, not later and and stop the matches at least at midnight, maybe play the set out. At RG, there are stll outdoor conditions, and this cold conditions are very bad for the bodies and provoke injuries.

Putting top male seeds on at noon or even in the morning should be totally on the table.

No reason every match needs to be on Paris Prime time.

America is the most desirable TV market and millions more would be watching if Paris matches started in the mornings.

The whole trend of this late night matches is imo debatable. First in the US and Australia, now under much colder conditions in France, they wanted to get the better position for the tv market. But if some players get all the night matches, other all the day matches, it goes into the direction of two parallel tournaments with different conditions. We saw that in Australia, when Tiley gave his favorites Federer or Djokovic virtually all the night matches, while the other guys exhausted themselves in the midday heat. Djoker was surprised this year, when he suddenly had to play a day match in the semis.. At RG, its imo a disadvantage to finish matches in the early morning, due to the cold weather and also the disturbed rhythm. It is my impression, that Alcaraz and especially Zverev got most of the night matches and have to face different conditions when they have to return to day schedules.. Not only my impression:. Yesterday on Eurosport, Becker and a reporter speculated, that Zverev will play all the night matches, and then will get different conditions in a possible final, which will start at 15. Somehow it seems to me unfair under many angles.
