Pure aero string tension

Recently been trying out new Pure Aero 2023 with Volkl Cyclone 17G at 55lbs. I can’t get the same spin through the ball as I used to before with the old aero pro drive and the strings feel almost dead.

Is it worth lowering the tension to about 50lbs? I’m 22 years old and hit the ball fairly hard so unsure if lowering tension will ruin the control of the racket.

I would definitely try lowering the tension. The tension recommendation on racquets (often 50-60 pounds) is still moreso based on the nylon/multi/syn gut era. Most people nowadays are stringing their poly in the 40s now. Some even lower in the 30s, some still in the 50s, but I would definitely recommend lowering the tension to 50 (or even lower) to see how you like it. That racquet is very spin-friendly, so if you let the tension and still aren't getting enough spin, I'd take a look at your technique.

I almost always tell people using poly to start first at lowest recommended ref tension. Adjust up or down by 4# on next string job. 17 ga poly is too thin for the PA 2023. 16 ga holds tension longer and better than 17 ga. If string feels dead, it probably is and should be cut out.

If you know your tension/frame/string combo, I will string as requested. Most of my poly users use 16 ga (1.3-1.28mm) instead of thinner. They want at least 12-16 hours of hitting before seeing me again.

It turns out the balls were the problem. After a set using the Dunlop ATPs they were completely fuzzy, flat and unable to generate spin. Played again today using Dunlop atp championship instead and the racket/ string combo was a completely different animal. Strings were probably broken in nicely too so racket felt amazing.
