Pure Drive Plus (2015) compared to Pure Drive Team Plus (2001)

Difficult for me to comment as to which is better as I have only used the original early 2000 model which was phenomenal IMO. Significant differences include: cortex in 2015 model, different string pattern density in 2015 model even though both are 16x19.

I remember an article from a while back where the author expostulated that the original Pro Kennex copy was by far the best, and all subsequent iterations merely served to screw things up. :)

Thanks guys. There are clear differences in spec between the two frames. Im hoping that someone who has hit both can chime in to say if the newest ones (2015 model) is a better performer. I can't demo either but will make the switch for 2019 (just a bit of fun - i dont take it seriously any longer) and both are available to me.

2015 is only good if you want less 'spring' or trampolining - and consequently a little more control - from the string bed, due to the 'FST' string pattern this racquet possesses, whereby the string pattern is denser in the upper middle of the head. Original PD and latest PD are somewhat easier on the arm too, although some would still label them arm wreckers.

Thanks so much for that. I did use the original PD Plus for a season about ten years ago greatly enjoyed it (with no arm issues). However, I was hoping the newer ones would have been an improvement. If the 2015 isn't more arm friendly I'll probably just go with the older model. Thanks again.

The 2001 version is nice as long as you can handle the swing weight. I always had two issues with it:
1) stringing it tight enough to harness the power, and
2) inconsistent racquet face response (I always wondered if it was the woofers). It just seemed like the same swing would often get different results, sometimes going long, occasionally even coming up short of the target. Both of these issues pretty much go away with a modern, lower powered poly. It sure can bomb serves, though. Watch out for the QC because swingweight can vary greatly.

The 2015 + version had an odd feel to the balance. Many PD+ afficianados were not fans of the way it swung. It did feel a lot more head heavy and less maneuverable then the specs would suggest, very clubbish.

Neither is as arm friendly as the current version, which gets a lot more spin but also has more power, hence a little less control. FTR, my favorite PD+ is the GT.

JD,
Thanks for the detailed response. Has made me curious about the current version. Might put my purchase on hold and demo it from TW here in Australia. Thanks again.

If you ever decide to sell the olds Pure Drive Plus hit me a PM, I am still using it with no plans of changing them (but buying a few backups would be nice)

Cheers!

There were a few on the auction site just yesterday. The grip sizes were small (I think it might have been 1/4) but they were the old models and looked in pretty good condition.
