Pure Drive Plus Contenders?

Getting ready to demo the Babolat Pure Drive Plus and out of curiousity was taking a look at all the racquets that have similar specs (10.9-11.4 oz, 27+ inches, 300-332 sw, Medium power) and there seem to be quite a few on the market {9 or so}.

I guess the couple that really stuck out to me were the Wilson ProStaff Surge X 5.1, the Yonex MP-Tour 1 XF, and the Volkl Tour 8.

Has anyone been able to compare the Pure Drive Plus with any of these other sticks? If so, what do you think?

From the March issue of Tennis Magazine, it looks like Mike Bryan is playing with either the Surge or the Surge X.

Thanks for any input.

I believe mike bryan is only playing w/ a paintjob of the surge, and it's actually a hyper pro staff 5.0 stretch or something like that.

bishop, you've already asked for a comparison of the pd+ to the tour8 in a previous thread.

surge x is similar to pd+ w/o woofers, and super ugly paint scheme (imo). i liked the pd+ better.

yonex mp-1 tour xf is alot less powerful than the pd+.

Kreative is right....you seem to be crossing the same bridges again and again in a way that has us concerned for your health. The search for racquets seems to be getting a little out of hand. You have the demos - trust your own impression about the stick. I do, when I can get hold of it. One that i haven't gotten hold of, and I believe you have, is the Pure Control MP. Any impressions?

You're right guys. I've already asked about the Tour 8. Sorry about repeating myself. Someone had just mentioned the Surge X in another post and I began looking at the specs and they seemed similar to the PD+.

El Diablo,

I'll be getting my demos in tomorrow (if the UPS driver can get through the 12 inches of snow we are getting today). Wouldn't you know it, I order 4 demos, and we get the biggest snow in 10 years. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH. Luckily it's supposed to get up to 52 by Saturday and 64 by Sunday. Going to get out tomorrow and shovel the courts. Anyway, I'll put up a post concerning the four racquets I'm demoing (PD, PD+, PC, PCMP) as soon as I get to go through practices and matches with all four.

Thanks for the input.

diablo, to me, the PC MP didn't feel as solid as the PC Std. i thought the MP would be more easier to play with due to it's slightly lower swingweight and lower stiffness, but i guess i just like a bit more heft. it's just.....different.

Just curious how much money have you spent on demo's now?

The other posters are right... at a certain point you have to just bite the bullet and pick something that's right for you.

Your body will adapt to the rest.

used to use PD+ exclusively. It felt great with some strings. It really gives you a lot of spin, esp kick serve. Gives you a great leverage on serve...Volleys are ok.

Compared to Tour 8, they are sorta different. Tour 8 gives you more control, more flexbile, and better feel. And less power. I liked tour 8, except it was a bit expensive.

I used to use PC MP as well. I liked this racket a lot. Flexible enough, great power (more than tour 8, but less than PD+), good control. Good Spin. Volleys were ok with this.

Here's my experience with rackets- Some sticks feel great at the beginning esp when you go to more forgiving rackets, but then they won't feel so great after a while.....
