Pure Strike 2024

For any Pure Strike users wondering, a new paint job will be releasing in August.

I've seen the mock up from a Babolat catalog and I gotta say it looks pretty good. I couldn't tell if it was glossy or still matte, but the white has been swapped out with a sleek carbon grey. The entire lineup is getting the new color from what I saw. The classic Babolat markings are still orange/red on the sides.

So it looks a little like the PS VS a couple years back ?

Honestly, yes. The carbon grey looked a little lighter than the VS. The stripes on both sides are orange/red. They look cool.
While I think I'll like it more then white, I kinda wish they leaned into a full glossy black main color instead of gray. The PSVS is a glossy carbon, and a full jet black with the orange and white strike bars and accents would look really amazing.

I think the cosmetic change is really odd for Babolat. A company thats now on 4-5 year refresh cycles doing a cosmetic refresh mid-iteration is either an admission they didnt like the original cosmetic or the sales are trending poorly. I like the current strike cosmetic, its classy, but also very similar to gens 2/3 (which is preferred for some). Have to wonder if they will update any of the technical jargon. any insight on specs @MSUspartans777 ?

Specifications were not listed but I would assume they are the same.

If it is not selling, will a paint job fix the issue? The white paint job has been associated with the Strikes since 2017 (except for Strike VS Gen 3) and this is a major branding change in that case. If it is really not selling, maybe they should bring out a new Gen with modified design/specs.

It would be interesting to know sales figures. In my neck of the woods both playing usta and coaching hs, I see pure strikes well represented.

In strikes gen 3 receive a few paintjobs related with country flags and the price on those and regular colorway dropped for a bit in that gap, so is not that weird and people really complained with a white option again (Boring as hell) and making it dark and glossy will make me update my VS

Hard to say, either way I’d think this is solely a move to pick up sales. Pretty perplexing. Imagine if mid cycle they brought out a new color PD or PA, we’d all riot

Speed --> speed legend. Wilson blade --> noir, laver cup, Roland garros, us open editions babolat Wimbledon editions. Idk, seems like a lot of precedent for PJ updates and changes to spark sales.

Well those are limiteds right , this isn’t apples to apples with that. They are literally changing the main pain color scheme
I see what you're saying, are we sure the strike is completely moving away from white and not just a limited alternate pj like the Wilson reverse pjs? So this is a yonex-like move where they sometimes simply refresh the pj instead of updating the actual frame? If it is a complete divergence from white permanently then yeah I'd agree it would be fairly unprecedented.

Oh wow, hadn't realized it was a complete shift. Guess they're not selling that well haha.

Does feel largely unprecedented - I feel like this is a major shake up for Babolat in particular. I think back to aero gt - it felt like that racket was around for 10 years. Total divergent strategy. Like @Alcawrath mentioned pretty similar to yonex strategy, I bet their marketing team is feeling pretty vindicated right now

I feel like the TF40 is doing that now. I know one place (TN?) is claiming the frame is updated but everywhere else is saying that it’s just a paint refresh, and if you look at the published specs of the 2022 and 2024 TF40s they are identical. My hunch is Tecnifibre put their resources towards the TFight in terms of mold and layup changes, and the TF40 is just a mid cycle paintjob change.

I'm all for limited paint job updates for frames, especially if actual update cycles are 3 or more years. I certainly wish Head would do it because I can't stand the same paint job design for every silo they make. Where is the creativity!?

I don’t think they’re getting rid of the current pure strike pj for a new black one,
I wouldn't expect them to. But I would like to see more than just "a darker shade of white".

the white is now solidly part of the pure strike’s identity.
To me, it's the red/orange that is more the identity of the Strike, as that's been the primary accent color all long. White hasn't always been there, and IMHO doesn't need to stay. Apparently Bab's marketing department agrees.

it’s been a long time since the main color scheme was black and orange/red for the Pure Strikes. I didn’t mind the pre production demo black with white stripes color scheme, but it didn’t stand out.

Yesterday I saw the new paintjob at local shop. It is medium dark silver matte instead of white. 2025 Pure Drive paintjob style but different colors. Looks cool.

Did your shop also quote an August date? Interesting that 10 months in advance we’d be seeing samples floating

They just said summer. Also commented that people were complaining that white pj was not big enough change so they came up with silver grey pj. Maybe tomorrow I will stop by and ask for a picture but I am not sure if it is allowed.

Please at least keep the VS/97 glossy Babolat, it's really that simple. The current PJ is suck! Look how Head does with Gravity 2025!

You could "accidentally" take one anyways, then "accidentally" post it on reddit/r/10s, then "accidentally" tell us you "didn't". ;)

Anyone else feel Pure Strike 98 easier to use than Pure Aero 98? I found the latter less maneuverable and harder to get spin. Serves didn’t feel natural.

I'd agree with this, though I used the gen 3 Strike 98 and have yet to try the gen 4. For me the Strike is much more user-friendly, while the Aero is a challenge. I heard it has a high twist weight which is probably why you're having trouble maneuvering it. But it definitely has the feel of an advanced player's stick while the Strike can be used by intermediates.

Are you folks comparing the PS 98 16x19 with the aero? I recently got the 18x20 version, but have yet to hit with it, waiting till my knee is back to normal

If you have the same swing path all the time, Strike is easier, but the Aero works better if you switch between swinging straight through the ball and buggy whipping. Higher twistweight than the Strike

About 2 points difference, if we can go with TW stats, and average for the 18x20 would then be 332, guess mine is pulling that average number up
