Semi-Pro
Played my pusher friend again last night, and for ONCE, it was a total steam roll! We usually have to go 3 sets which are usually very close, he's a pretty good pusher. And he's super quick, can get a racket on just about everything until I make an error. Well last night we played, and neither of us had played in about 2 weeks so we were both feeling a bit rusty during the warm up.
My serve was horrible, I couldnt buy one to save my life. I knew during the warm up that this was going to be a rough serving match for me. I just couldnt get them over the net! Anyway, even with 25% first serves, I bagelled him in the first set. My serve was way off, but my groundstrokes were dead on! I was painting the corners with forehand and backhand winners that he couldnt get a racket on, which is very unusual. I was waiting for my game to completely fall apart like it tends to do, but it never happened. He kept pushing and pushing, but I just kept running him ragged and then Id wrong foot him, worked every time. Took the 2nd set at 1, so the final score was 6-0, 6-1 in about 45 minutes. My first serve % was less than 25% for the match, but the rest of my game made up for it.
We spent the rest of the time out there practicing. In hopes to turn him into more of a shotmaker than a pusher, we worked on his backhand alot and both worked on hitting approach shots and trying to finish at the net. It was weird because im used to being totally spent after 3 long sets. But i totally smoked him this time. Yeah, key word being THIS time.....
