Wow.... Davydenko can truly beat anyone in 2/3 now. What a late peaker. Def. bad for Federer as Robin Soderling is now the lone player in the Top 8 missing his # (Though the exo might've disproven even that)

Expected and deserved victory for Davydenko, the best HC player of this moment. No surprise here at all, and well, laugh at me, but I think the same thing will be going to happen tomorrow.

Whatever was troubling Fed (if anything), he should have withdrawn from the match if it is anything serious. Stupid *** if he just f*cked up his chances at the AO by playing on with a lingering injury, if such is indeed the case.

This is my evidence for what I said about you in my previous post. You're just a hater trying to sound logical.

It's hilarious you accuse me of not basing my assessments of the grand historical record, yet you yourself make sweeping conclusions about my feelings for Federer based on my evaluation of Federer's performance so far this season. Check my posting history if you want to see that I am, in fact, a Fed fan.

Apparently in your book, being a fed fan = being a ******* with his head buried in the sand.

I don't know, but the fact that Federer is still trying to hide his frustration somewhat is worrying me.

IMO I think he should go break a racquet again or something. I feel sorry for his backhand today. On one shot I think he was about to hit a backhand when he suddenly went around it and hit a forehand instead. Hmm..

But then again, Davydenko was playing god-like today

If Rafa beats Davy tomorrow then I think people can stop dismissing his chances to defend his AO title.

I'll go as far as to call him the favorite if he wins.

Vamos Rafa!!!

I think Rafa will defeat Davy tomorrow. He's playing much better than he did at the end of 2009.

I think, also, people who said, about Rafa's Abu Dhabi win, that it was "just an exo!" will have to eat their words.

Two straight finals to start 2010.

Can Rafa win both consecutively? I think so, yeah.

Couldn't ask for better preparation for his AO title.

But also remember how people were saying he was back after beating Tsonga late last year? We'll see. I want to believe it. I want nothing more than Rafa to defend his AO title.

Fed will tank. He's not ready for nadal
Excellent remark although I still think Fed's game is somewhat declining as well. But no doubt he saw Rafa play today and did NOT want to play him in the final. With Fed's current level, he would have had 0 chance of beating THAT Rafa, he would have got humiliated.

You just don't know what you're talking about, and that's pretty terrible. I am a Federer fan, but I am also a realist. If anybody is wishfully thinking, it's you. If you want to hold out hope that this showing against Davydenko is some sort of blip, more power to you. But Fed hasn't played well since the US Open last year. This year he hasn't even played at a top 10 level. Now Fed may very well prove me wrong and make it to the AO finals, but I just can't envision it based on the skillset and mindset he has shown in the past few months.

Replies in order of bolded parts of your response
1. Wonderful reasoning! "you just don't know what you're talking about"
2. No more wishful than you thinking that Roger's showing here is a predictor of a bad year or bad AO .
3. Its 8 days into the new year. Hold onto your horses there cowboy.
4. So after an exhausting year winning 2 of the 4 slams and getting beat in the finals of the other 2 in 5 sets, you want me to base his peformance in 2010 on his showing towards the end of 2009? He's also had time off to rejuvenate and practice over Christmas. He's still fine-tuning his game and getting match practice.

I don't think you are a Roger fan. This statement shows the level of hate you have -
How embarrassing for Federer. Now he's been stomped by people who use to be his whipping boys.

There's nothing reasonable in that statement. Just spewing hate and derision.

That's true but before Tsonga, Rafa played several bad matches and at WTF his game completely fell aprt. This season, he has played 6 matches and hasn't lost a set. His power and precision are back with benefits. He looks very good to me.

What match by Davy, especially that first set was quite brilliant. So solid off the ground, and now his serve looks like a weapon too.

I don't think Federer was playing bad at all but certainly could have played better, especially on the backhand side. I don't think he'll be worried too much though.

That last shot of the game was a typical "what the hell who cares" shot
from Federer - we have all seen it before. Looks as if he just gave up.

You can whine all you want to about my comment that you just don't know what you're talking, but it's a fact. You don't know what you're talking about. Fed used to own Davydenko, but lately he's been struggling against doofuses like Gulbis and Benneteau. I can't point this out, and mention how ominous this is for his AO chances, without being accused of being a hater? Yes, I am a hater who wishfully voted for Fed to win this tournament in this thread's poll  And I am a hater who has a history of posts showing a strong liking for Federer. But no, you're right. I make a comment stating that it is embarrassing for Fed to lose two straight matches against a man whom he beat in the first 10+ encounters, and that makes me a hater.

It is eight days into the new year, but we've seen Fed play five matches. In addition, we've seen the way he played late last season. I am going to use Fed's more recent performances as predictors of his future level of play, not distant memories of previous grand slam triumphs. Sure Fed is getting "match practice" at Doha, but you would expect him to be improving if rustiness were his problem. He seems to be performing worse and worse, and in a way that connects directly back to his performances late last season. Again, one of us is wishfully thinking, and it certainly isn't me.

Davydenko is a bad matchup for Nadal. Lets not forget the straight sets shackling in miami 08, this during Nadals best season.
No, this BEFORE Nadal's best season started. I agree Davy is a bad matchup but Rafa seems to be in ideal form to take up the challenge. He beat Soderling last week. Getting his revenge on Davy this week would be sweet. The match was close at WTF (or at least one of the sets I forget) and Rafa is playing NOTHING like he was playing there.

No, he does look good. There's depth to his shots, has been more aggressive at times, serve is solid, etc. I just want to keep myself cautiously optimistic rather than unfettered optimism. :)

Rafa lost the first set 6-1, but had a tie break in the second at WTF.

They are 2 clay-courts specialists who have really expanded

Ok alright kiddo, looks like those hormones are starting to kick in. Take it easy. Don't get worked up. Teenage doesn't last forever.

It will close buy i think Rafa looks sharp as hell. think he will prevail. Fed didnt want to win very badly today the way he wants to in Grand Slams.. he wants the OZ open not the the Doha Open.

He really was rather awesome today, and the crowd here really seems to love him, so I'm looking forward to that final indeed! :)
