Tsongerer

Rookie
Will be a great quarterfinal in my opinion, they played eachother 3 times in grandslams, all at Roland Garros, 2 of the 3 were 5 setters (the other that didn't shouldve been one too). Wawrinka leads the H2H 4-3 but 6 out of the 7 matches were on clay.
Tsonga won the only hardcourt match between the 2.

I hope Tsonga but I guess Wawrinka in 4/5.

I'm always amazed when Tsonga manage to win a match with that awkward style.

I highly doubt he will be able to move Stan here though.
Straight sets.

Actually pretty amazing to think that Wawrinka has 3 slams while Tsonga has 0.

A few years back I think I remember most people betting on Tsonga getting a Slam before Stan, if someone was to break the mold out of those two.

Wawrinka with ease.

Tsonga showed potential years ago, and never put in the work to see it through. At this point, he's a fatter Monfils -- just a gatekeeper on the way to the real players. When he has to face them himself, he rolls over with a whimper.

Ouch.
I do agree he has regressed the last few years and is no longer so dangerous like he was in 2011 for example.
However he can occasionally rise above being a 'gatekeeper' ie 2014 Montreal beating Djokovic, Murray, Dimitrov, and Federer in a row.

I would love to see Tsonga win a slam, but I feel his biggest problem is backhand and second serve sits too short in the box a lot. If Stan manages to engage in backhand to backhand battles this one could be over quicker than expected. Tsonga will have to serve incredibly high % and forehand will need to be on fire. Head says Stan in 4, much like FO 2015 SF, but who knows.

Tsonga is a lovely guy but it'll take a friggin miracle for him to ever win a slam.
He really isn't that good.

I would not be at all unhappy for Tsonga to win, but I am hoping as always that Stan makes it a little farther. (I dread that potential Fedrinka SF, though... although I suppose we could end up with a Zverev-Tsonga SF!)

Anyway, their matches are usually exciting and eventful, so I'm hoping for more of the same! :)

This match is terribly scheduled for me. Going to start around 4 or 5 in the morning. So can't decide whether I should stay up all night long and then follow it up with Rodge-Mischa and basically sacrifice sleep; then maybe I can get to bed early tomorrow and wake up at 3-4 Wedensday night and catch both Ralph-Milosch and Goffin-Babyartist. Else I should try to get a couple of hours of sleep and wake up at 4 or 5. Can't decide.

Both of them have beautiful game. Still I would love Tsonga to win this. I definitely wish him to have one GS before he hangs up but unlikely.

Jo styling with the beard and hair there. If I fished on the other side of the pond I'd be Djokovic2011'ing all over him.
