They're quarrel goes way back. They use to be friendly with one another. But when Stan won his first GS, he made some insinuations (thrash talk if you must) about the French players. This didn't sit well with Tsonga and the others. So, Tsonga and Wawrinka have been cold to one another since. I'd say Warinka has always been a mug.

May Federer beat you to a pulp !!!

I thought it was Tsonga who made some awkward comments in the press about how he "deserved" a Slam as much as Stan after his 2014 AO win...then Stan replyed and then it got worst at the DC final in France

To my recollection, it was Stan who made some insinuations about the French players when he was asked about it, after winning his first GS. Then, Tsonga got irked. It was a few years back, so am not absolutely sure.

Well whatdoyouknow, fell asleep after a couple of games.

Doesn't seem like the match was too competitive, so didn't miss out. What's Stan's level looking like?

Very strange to see two nice guys quarrel.

The match was somewhat of a snooze fest. Given what both guys are capable of this was a boring match. The level from both guys wasn't great. In the end Stan basically did what he had to do to get over the line. He'll have to pick up his level and play one of his best matches as he has in OZ in the past against Federer.

Even @Steve0904 is wondering, and he almost never goes overboard. I admit that it's possible now.

If Stan plays like he did today, comparing with Federer, then I'd probably make him (Stan) the ever so slight favourite. However if Federer can disrupt Stan's rhythm as he's been known to do before then I'm confident that Federer is going to win. And then there's the final which I've already given my thoughts on. Assuming he gets there he can beat anybody except Nadal, but of course neither potential finalist will be easy and Stan's up first. A huge test there obviously.

I've seen amateurs switch between a ohbh and a thbh but never a pro so much. Tsonga should stick with a ohbh, he hit some good passes today.

Tsonga said he was better than Murray at Wimbledon, he has a big ego.

Wawrinka with ease.

Tsonga showed potential years ago, and never put in the work to see it through. At this point, he's a fatter Monfils -- just a gatekeeper on the way to the real players. When he has to face them himself, he rolls over with a whimper.
Easy call.

Tsonga's second serve might be the worst on tour. Club level garbage.

Never seen anybody with that kind of size, athleticism, and pedigree who still rolls low-action lollipops directly into the center of the box on every second serve. Ball was dropping back to earth by the "MELBOURNE" painted on the court. If he's doing that at your local park, he's the guy you pity because his serve isn't reaching the fence till after the bounce.

The rest of his game is so enormous that this is just completely baffling to me. Even Nishikori is moving it around, getting some action on it, and keeping it deep in the box more often than not. That stroke is why he's going to end his career as a zero slam wonder, whining that he deserved more.

Weird, because I like Tsonga. I'm thinking most people like him too. Wawrinka has a bit of history whining about things...
It sounded like Tsonga felt Wawrinka was staring right at him at him and yelling "C'mon!", right at the end of the first set tie break, when Tsonga hit the forehand out. And it looked that way. Of course, Stan was just kind of in the moment, but he did look directly at Tsonga when he did it.

The Stanimal does that

Didn't watch the match. Was Stan that dominant as the result suggests or it was Tsonga who switched to his clown mode?

He was playing quite well and then just every once in a while went off the reservation. Is this what you mean by clown mode?

Tsonga has a tendency to come out with a poor shot selection/ambitious-unrealistic approaches and lose a match quickly, that's what I was thinking.

Thanks for answering.

Haven't seen the match yet, but the expected winner through. Good job by SW for keeping it short. From the result in the 3rd set, J-WT was there simply to make up the numbers. Pity it wasn't a better contested match.
