Our District is starting a new league for 2012: Quad.

Quad is an expansion of Tri-level, which we had for the first time last year. In Quad, there will be four courts of doubles: 3.0/3.5/4.0/4.5. Roster limit will be increased from 20 to 22.

I have to say, I find the idea intriguing. If it happens over the summer, I think I might just captain.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I played Tri-level just once, a few years back as a 3.5 in Virginia. I really liked the level of competition. Because each team only needs a few players at each level, each team recruits the top players. Those were among the toughest 3.5 matches I played.

It will be easy to find 3.5s and 4.0s. Finding 3.0s and 4.5s will be a tall order . . . .

Yeah our local league coordinator (or the league that used to be my local league, I'm still on the email list apparently) actually sent out an email that said the tri-level leagues where being converted in to quad-level, and made it sound like a national thing. It also said that league standings would be calculated by individual match win/loss records, to avoid dealing with all the 2-2 ties that would happen if they tried to give overall team wins/losses each time.

I played in a tri-level league last year and enjoyed it, and would play in a quad-level if the opportunity arose.

dizz, you could definitely play up in tri-level, as I'm a 3.5 and played up a couple matches at the 4.0 line out of team necessity. I can only assume quad level would be the same.

Cool..yea having a quad league makes more sense to me than having two tri level leagues (3.0/3.5/4.0 & 3.5/4.0/4.5).

Cool that they will allow players to to up as needed like in tri - level ..only one level im assuming :)

Not sure if i like the individual win format...i get that it would prevent messy situations brought on by 2-2 ties (im sure there will be a lot of those) but i like to know that our team BEAT another team heads up and that's why we are going to sectionals. But i know that's just the way it is :) Last season we lost to a team heads up but we were the one to move on.

Quad sounds great. I had a fun time playing on my tri-level team, and seems as though Quad would be 25% more fun!

I've played Tri Level two years running now, and I think it's great fun. I think the competition is pretty good with the top teams usually having players towards the top of their level for each line.

In the area that I play, I think adding 3.0 won't be a problem. Usually we have more trouble getting the 4.5 players, with some teams loading up with the best 4.5 players and others barely getting the minimum number to field a team.
