Question about Eastern Forehand?

I've been using Semi-western on all forehands forever now. High, low, approach, etc. (except slice). I want to make my forehand more versatile by using the eastern grip.

I know the eastern grip is the most used on running forehands, so I really want to learn this.

What plane am I hitting with on an Eastern FH? On my Semi-Western, I hit on a straight plane and finish around my waist/left bicep or elbow. Also, where should the point of contact be? Farther back than Semi-western?

I tried hitting some eastern FH shots today but it was disastrous. They were really high and deep. I tried using the same wrist snap I use on Semi-western and it lead to alot of high fly balls.

I use Eastern FH grip for my forehands but realize that the semi-western grip is very popular on the Professional circuits. It's better to improve your semi-western FH rather than trying a new stroke with Eastern. If you have any real issue with the semi-western forehand grip, please let me know, and I will try to help you.

I think semi-western is more verstitile....just stick with it. its fine and better for todays game anyway.

You can always just use a reverse forehand. And you shouldn't want to change your grip for just 1 shot. Or, you can just switch to an eastern when you are on the run.

That's what I was planning on doing. Using Semi-Western for the baseline, and Eastern on the run.

I wanted to toy with Eastern on approach shots.

For today's game, you would be hard pressed to find a more versatile grip. Stick with the SW and master it on all balls. It isn't just the swing you have to master but your weight transfer, controlled rotation, footwork, positioning, etc...
