Question for those who use a Western FH

I recently switched to a Head Flexpoint Radical and due to the shape of the grip I've found myself gravitating from my normal SW forehand to a full western. I can't deny I do like the full western and at this point I'm trying to decide if I should stick with it, or change the shape of the standard Head grips to work better with a SW forehand ...

So my question is this. To those who primarily use a full western, how do you hit the low balls? I've had some success hitting around the side of the ball (hard to explain what I do) without really changing the grip but I'm not sure this is the way to go. Do you simply change your stroke on those low balls, or do you change your grip instead, more towards an eastern grip, etc.?

YOu need to come under the ball, if fw, and put more top on it than normal; or make a small grip adjustment on the run.

Naaah .... no need to change your grip.
I know what you mean by hitting the side of the ball.
The W grip encourages you to have the throat more vertical rather than horizontal at impact and you just need to release your wrist and/or suppinate (clockwise rotation) your forearm a little more than usual is all.

I have been playing with a Hawaiian grip and thats what I do with the low balls. I can pick it off a few inches from the ground even when it is falling, but I have to consciously flick my wrist and forearm a lot more. But you cannot be late unless the ball is rising like on a half volley.

Why go through all thost mods just to accomodate your grip?
Stick with the W-you'll eventually get used to it.
For low balls, there's basically 3 options:
  1. Adjust your grip.
  2. Speed up your footwork and take it early.
  3. Or fight bite with bite. You don't have to top everything you know.

Welcome to the elite.;)
