Question Kramer Autograph Wood

New User
Hello, I am currently cataloging all of my vintage racquets. I need to know about this racquet.
Wilson Jack Kramer Autograph Wood Speed Flex.
This is NEW condition with a Wilson Kramer advertising card attached to the racquet. Also has the wood holder so it does not warp. Now keep in mind this is all new condition.

What I Need to know is the average price of this racquet. I DO NOT sell my vintage racquets but I catalog them on my computer and also try and find out a retail price so I can log them incase of insurance.

I find many of my classics on e bay and other auction/for sale sites to get a average price but can not find out what my Kramer racquet would be worth.

But please keep in mind that I do not sell my racquets.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also forgot. Approx what year issue would this racquet fall in.

Thank you.
John

Considering that they sold for approx $50 back in the early 80s and they are much more scarce now and thus should have appreciated, it should be worth atleast $100. Unfortunately, this is often not the case at recent auctions :(

Joe's right...

And he usually is... :)

Due to nearly everyone using it or the Dunlop Maxply when we were swinging wood racquets (uphill... both ways... in a snowstorm...), Flea bay has them used for about $10. Regarding dating the one you have, if the crown has 3 points, it's likely ca. 1980. If it has 7 points on the crown, it's likely from the early 70's (possibly earlier...). Brand new makes it worth more, but...

The one I have has one point on the top of the middle of the crown. Also I know it may not be much, but all I want to do is get some kind of approx value. I know e bay is like $10.00 or under for used ones.

Thanks everyone.

One point ? Should be 3 or 7. We are talking about the number of crown points. As data explained, the JKA's were the most popular woody probably ever with almost 30 million produced. This picture will probably help you tell which model you have:

Isn't there a copyright date on the hang tag/advertising card? That should date it for you.

Does in have a black leather grip or sort of a reddish brown leather grip? The black leather grip/white facing JKA was the last one, I believe. 1970-ish to end of production around 1982? The reddish brown or brown grip with the red banding is more 1960's-ish.

If is mint/perfect, it should sell for around $75 on average give or take about $25 bucks. If you find a very serious collector who really wants that particular model, he might pay a bit more. A fleabay auction probably would not yield that much but you never know with fleabay. I'd say low end, $50, high end, $100, average around $75.

It is hard to put an exact value on a racket like that because there are so few comps.

I just checked my racquet. It does have the 3 point crown. The handle is brown/ reddish brown color. The adverting card does not have a date on it at all. Only mentions the Kramer racquet on front and on the reverse side has a write up about Kramer and the last date mentioned on the card is 1968.

As I did mention above, this racquet I am not selling. Just wanted imput on the approx value so I can catalog it in my collection.

Thanks everyone for helping me out.

Thanks everyone. You have been a big help. Finally pinpointed the approx year of this racquet.

I received a lot of World Tennis mags in the mail today. April 1980 issue does have the Kramer that I have pictured in a ad along with a Kramer Pro Staff and a Chris Evert Autograph model. So the one I have dates maybe earliest 1979 but certainly 1980!

And the price range in the dealer ads ranged from $40.00 to $50. So everyone was right on target.

Since I am logging this in my collection, I will assume that since still in brand new condition, with ad card and new wood frame (the one to prevent warping), I will catalog its value at approx $75.00 to $100.00.
(knowing full well that this would not bring that price anywhere on the bay) but since I am not selling any of the vintage frames, I will catalog that price range.

So everyone, a big thanks for the help again.

The three crown started earlier than 1979. The three point crown started some time in the 1960's. There is a photo of a family memeber from the 1960's with a JK Autograph with the 3 point crown on it. I think the Autograph changed to the 3 point crown when the JK Pro Staff. The JK Pro Staff has a 5 point crown. http://80s-tennis.com/pages/kramer-prostaff-cl.html
