Questions about Monte Carlo

We’re probably heading to watch Monte Carlo next spring. We went to the Italian Open last year and Madrid this year so we kind of understand the general process for getting tickets and watching at the tournament. Is there anything particular about Monte Carlo that we should know?

If budget concscious, stay in Nice

My wife found some wonderful seaside accommodations in Eze at what I thought was a very reasonable price. We had been to Nice before and don’t feel a need to explore that area again so I think we’re primarily going there for the tournament and to explore Monaco.

The tournament is held across the border in France. MC is really small and what I remember the best is the fancy casino where people dress a lot better than the schlubs in Vegas as it looks the casinos in Bond movies. There is a nice aquarium, some pretty gardens and the old ville is good to walk around. It has some famous multi-Michelin star restaurants also. Don’t rent a big car as the parking spaces are really small.

Eze is a beautiful village to stay at. Chateau de La Chèvre D’Or and Chateau Eza are both great hotels and they both have good Michelin star restaurants worth checking out even if you are not staying in those hotels. Also recommend the hotel and restaurant at La Reserve Beaulieu-sur-Mer which is another pretty coastal village nearby. Usually there might be rain at that time of the year.

Thanks for this info. The casino is definitely a highlight but I doubt we will be welcomed dressed as we are, and I have no intention of bringing any dressy clothes. I guess we might just have to take pictures of the outside and forego going in. We’re going to Monte Carlo before heading to Southern Italy to explore and hike so outdoor wear is pretty much all we will have, though my wife will be turning 65 on the trip so we may have one fancy dinner out.

Did you go to the tournament when you were there? If so, any suggestions on how to make that the most enjoyable?

Bring your walking shoes and get ready for steps. Eze is full of them. Beautiful spot

I stayed in the South of France last week and it was amazing. Got to visit Cannes, Nice, Eze, Villefranche-sur-Mer, and Antibes, as well as Monte Carlo. I got to stop by the Monte Carlo Country Club too, and the receptionist was kind enough to let me take a photo from the terrace.

Definitely would love to be back during the tourney!

@MaxTennis Sounds like a great time! We’re trying to firm up plans now. We’d love to spend a week in that area to explore but with everything else we want to do, we’re again looking to be celebrating my wife’s early May birthday away from our kids, family, and friends, and next year is a milestone year.

It’s looking like the clay leadup tournaments to the French are going to be very heavily contested next year for the men.
