Questions about the Head Youtek IG Extreme Pro 2.0

I have a couple of questions about the Head Youtek IG Extreme Pro 2.0
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Head...AD-HYTIGX.html

I'm a long time Wilson 6.1 95 (12+oz) user and currently use a 4 3/8 grip (I've used 4 1/2 in the past).

Is the EP2 grip more rectangular than the Wilson grip ? Is the EP2 grip size smaller than the same size on a Wilson ?

The TW review says that the EP2 is a great racket for poly strings. Unfortunately, I can't use poly. My normal string setup is natural gut mains with syn gut crosses, both 16g. My 6.1 95 is strung at 60lbs.

Has anyone played with the EP2 strung with nat gut/syn gut ?

TIA

Extreme Pro 2.0 has definitely more rectangular grips like other Head rackets such as the Prestige series. It is possible that they are slightly less rectangular than Prestige rackets.

In terms of grip size, it is comparable to Wilson.

It plays well with any kind of strings like most of Babolat rackets. I have (5) of them and I have tried many different strings. Unlike some rackets, it plays well with seemingly all the strings I have tried.

I've played both the 6.1 95 16x18 and the Extreme Pro 2.0...A few things to point out which are strictly my own observations and your mileage may vary:

  • The Extreme Pro is MUCH more powerful. I hit it with a poly/syn gut hybrid and it still had plenty of mustard. Be ready for the power increase especially if you are a natty gut/syn gut user. You might want to give a few different tensions, particularly higher, a try.
  • The grip shape is different than Wilson. The Speed line is the one from Head that has the rounder pallets. I don't like the more rectangular shape but for some reason it really stood out to me on the Radicals (which are the same.)
  • The head shape is much rounder. Some people care, others don't, but it might seem a little weird.

Honestly, I thought the 6.1 was more powerful and erratic. In any case, I definitely didn't think there was a huge difference in the power levels of those two racquets. That's ultimately why I went with the Extreme. I played one set of HEAD Syn Gut PPS in my Extreme and did not like it. To much power and not enough control. Polys play great in it for sure.

I'm not sure how good this racquet would be with strictly non-poly strings. The polys, I think, reign in the power and make it pretty good for me.

One other point - it is a 16x19, but the pattern is actually pretty dense in the middle of the stringbed. I think that is one reason that such a powerful racquet also has good control.

Good luck with it. I think its an excellent stick.

Had a good night hitting with this racquet last night. Groundstrokes were powerful with a healthy amount of spin. I'm enjoying the gut / poly combination much more than the full bed of gut.

I believe the new Extremes just came out last year, so they'll probably not be upgraded until 2014. That's just a guess.
