Questions about the TK82S Pallets

I just bought a MG Prestige MP as an upgrade to my LM Radicals.

I love the racquet, feel, control, spin, however the grip shape is quite different from my LM's. It's much more rectangular and the small bevels are much smaller than what I'm used to. Consequently, I can't always find my eastern BH grip (OHBH here), and when I do find it my hand often slips.

I was a Wilson user for, well, most of my life and only recently made the switch to Head. My LM Radicals took some getting used to but they were never as problematic as the MG's.

I've recently become aware of the TK82S pallets that you can order from TWE and will probably order a couple since apparantly they are more Wilson shaped.

Anyhow, for those that switched to the TK82S pallets, I have a couple of questions:

1. Do I need a special butt cap or will the butt cap on the MG's work just fine?

2. I'm aware of how to remove the pallets, however, do you need to glue the new pallets on? If so, what glue should I use?

3. Do the TK82S pallets weigh the same as the stock pallet?

4. Looking at the TWE website, if I want to order 4 3/8 size pallets, I get a size 3 right? I'm pretty sure I need a 3 but I just want to double check.

Thanks for the reply's

1. Your regular buttcap should fit with no problem, as long as you don't get a different size.

2. I've always found there's enough glue left on the frame when you take the original pallet off. Just slap the new one straight on and the glue will set as it cools. No problems with my old Radicals.

3. I haven't weighed them, but I didn't feel any significant difference in weight on my old Radical when I made the switch.

4. Yes, grip 3 is equal to 4 3/8".

You might find a TK82S to be a little bit rounder than a Wilson handle, but nothing like a Prince. It will still be a lot closer to the Wilson shape than the normal Head pallet is.

Thanks Spiff.

One final question, is there a way of ordering these in North America, or is TWE really my only option?

1. No special butt cap but if you decide to place an order from TWE, I would advise to order butt cap as well
2. If you need more tape, I would suggest 3M 444 double coated tape
3. Yes
4. TK82S is very rounded, even more than Wilsons. You should be ok with 3 but if you use leather grip maybe you should consider to take sz 4. They felt smallish to me...

Thanks for the input. I'll try with 3 and if those are too small I'll go higher or just build up.

The TK82S felt too round for me .... as in too round compared to the typical Wilson's.

How did that affect your game?? I imagine the large bevels are shorter, meaning that finding your forehand grip could be a challenge. While the small bevels are larger. If this is the case then I might get used to it because my biggest problem is the reduced size of the small bevels on the typical Head grip.

Go to your local shop, pick any SPEED racket in 4 3/8 and see how it fits. The speed line uses the TK82S.

I actually just did that over my lunch break :) It felt great, large surface area for my base knuckle while holding an eastern bh grip.

It did feel smallish though. Is it me or is a Wilson L3 grip closer to a head L4?

I think it might be due to thin grips on the Speed frames.

I've got a Speed MP, and I've got an old Radical with a TK82S pallet on it. Both say they are 4 3/8, but the Radical feels bigger. So, I looked at the grips a bit more closely, and it looks like the grip on the Speed is really thin compared to what I have on my Radical.

Its the shape change the size relates to the measurements in inches so the head fels larger becuase it's not an even sided shape.Well thats what i found anyway!

Got my hands on a couple

Ok, so I'm just about to close the deal for a couple of these. I still have a couple of questions though:

I'm playing very well presently with the stock pallets and, although I'm not exactly comfortable yet with my topspin backhand, I can hit it quite well, it just doesn't "feel" right and somtime my wrist twists at the end of my stroke.

My questions is this: for those who made the switch to the TK82S, did your game change in anyway? Loss of spin, depth, touch etc.?

So did the new pallet shape only affect the comfort on you shots or did it actually change your shots? I'm particularly concerned with my forehand grip as I use an extreme eastern grip and the stock Head pallet allows me to go a bit further towards a SW grip.

I feel the same way with leathergrip, and I am considering replacing all my TK82S size 3 by size 4. Thanks for the advice.
