Questions and Observations around Toroline K-Pop

After hitting with Toroline K-Pop for about 8 hours I have a few questions and several thoughts that i hope are helpful for someone else. For reference, I am a 4.0 using the Wilson Shift (315 prototype) and my go to string has been Volkyl Cyclone 17 @52lbs. After some arm issues (Radial Tunnel Syndrome) I have been testing out some hybrid options (Cyclone w/ Wilson NXT, then ALU Power w/NXT). I didn’t like either of those setups, so I strung the Shift with K-Pop at 52lbs in both the mains and the crosses.
First the questions:
  • Is the launch angle pretty low coming off these strings?
  • Have you tried reversing the Mains and Crosses? Toroline comes in packaging suggesting Wasabi in the mains and Caviar in the crosses.
Now to my observations:
  • Fun strings to hit with.
  • I am getting so much from these on my serve. It is noticeable to me and those around. More kick. More pop on the flat.
  • The first time out I had some arm stiffness afterwards, but the next three times have had no problems.
  • Took some time getting used to the launch angle, but once that made sense these strings have been a blast
  • Finally, I am 8 hours in, they are definitely not at 52lbs anymore, but still playable and fun,
Hope this helps someone out and perhaps some of you can help answer my questions.

I am testing KPop as well in my Radical MP. Very fun hybrid. Launch angle does not seem low to me.

My current favorite setup is a full bed of Mayami Hit Pro (Round 1.25 poly on the softer and more powerful side). KPop is a hair crisper but plays almost the same. If I'd never found Hit Pro KPop would be well considered for a full switch.

For your arm, have you tried any Mayami strings? All of them are on the softer side of poly. Still poly, but nowhere near harsh or too firm. Hit Pro, Tour Hex, or Big Spin may all be worth a demo.

I had radial tunnel syndrome too -- I find toroline and grapplesnake strings to be quite comfortable compared to old school polys. I am playing with almost no pain

When I used the Shift 315, I loved it with a full bed of regular wasabi - soft, super spin friendly, great complement to the frame itself. Have you tried that? I didn't try it with Kpop, but having used kpop in other frames, I think I'd like regular Wasabi in the Shift better.

@vdsp which Grapplesnake strings did you use with the Shift? I love their strings too and mostly play with game changer and have recently tried Alpha in my Yonex VCore 100. @Fighting phoenix I am currently using Wasabi full bed in my other Yonex Vcore 100 and love it. Same question have you tried any other Toroline strings in your Shift?

I just ordered a Shift and deciding what first string to try.

Yeah, I think Wasabi plays very well in the Shift - it really enhanced the natural spin you're able to generate with the racquet, and enhances ball pocketing for a really nice overall feel. I tried a lot of strings in it and it was probably my favorite.

Awesome thanks @Fighting phoenix. I have had arm pain in the past and have since worked on my form and it has helped alot. I did a hybrid of Wasabi 54lbs/Gosen Ak Pro Cx @52 lbs and it felt super plush with great spin and power but I am thinking I would try it in a full bed on the Shift. What tension did you do?

Yeah I didn't have any arm issues with the Shift w/ full poly, even though I am sensitive to issues as well, but I wouldn't go higher than 50 with it. I think 50 is a good starting reference tension, then see if you want to tweak it slightly higher or lower.

I recently tried this in a 2022 head extreme tour strung at 53lb. It's a new frame so actually the first string I'd tried in it after the demo, actually also had 1 (lousy) hit with the stock strings B4 leading up the frame also, head lynx tour 1.25 does not suit the frame.

Anyway very impressed. Great everything including comfort. It was slightly damp too. At start of the hit we used old balls and the combo of that plus slight dampness made getting much pace on the ball pretty difficult (plus strings were freshly strung only an hour before).

As soon as we switched to new balls though got to see proper potential of the strings and there was good power and excellent control.

Launch angle was actually fantastic; I don't like high launch angles but this felt high enough to pickup low balls (even on damp syn grass with very low bounce height on good days) but low enough for strokes and serves to always feel controlled. Plus it was highly predictable; never felt like the stringbed reacted unexpectedly or ball came off strings higher than expected.

May have found my go to string setup. It is the wasabi pink and caviar yellow

I tried the K-Pop on Shift 99 and yes launch angle is lower than normal. Don’t like that at all. Doesn’t feel good with the spin, I feel like the string doesn’t grap the ball enough for topspin but hitting flat feels good.

It's sort of like these were made for a flat hitting pro!
