Questions on changing from a junior to adult USTA membership

When my son was 15, we paid for a 5 year membership so his cheap membership just expired. Now I see membership is $176 for 5 years. Do any of you know if there is a discount for students playing ITA college tennis? He would only play during the summer or over winter break. If you already had a membership, it seems like you only have the 5 year choice, but if you get a new membership, you could choose $44 for one year. However, I assume you would be assigned a new membership number and lose all your history; my son had played some adult tourneys from 17-20. If there is not a discount, I guess it makes sense for him to wait until next May, see if he can get on any local 5.0+ teams or has time to play local opens with his summer internship-last year he had time to play two through tennislink and 2 others that were not USTA. If USTA really wants to keep juniors and college players in USTA tourneys they should have some cheap program while players are in college. Do players have to have USTA membership to play non USTA sanctioned tourneys that run through tennislink? Anyone know of promo code for college players?

I was going to say let the membership lapse. Then rejoin for one year and give them your old membership number. That's what I was doing over the years until I just stop playing leagues.
