Quick question: what tension to string Silver 7 Tour at

The general consensus seems to be to string Silver 7 Tour at lower tension than other polys. I normally string softer polys (cyclone tour) at 52lbs, and firmer polys (confidential) at 50 lbs in my Vcore 95 (not the 2021). I am going to try Silver 7 Tour for the first time. What tension should I string it at?

In my experience it plays better around 45-48 lbs

Through some overthinking, I ended up going with 47lbs. Probably could've gone 46 or even 45 and still be good. I like the control. The tension maintenance is amazing. I don't really know if I'm a fan of the feel yet.

I'm currently using 18 gauge Cyclone Tour at 53/47 and 17 gauge S7T at 48/44 in the same racquet. Cyclone Tour's much greater tension loss means they aren't comparable at every point in their respective lives but that roughly 10% lower tension for S7T seems to be the sweet spot for me in terms of consistency of launch angle and play for the greatest portion of the lives of both stringbeds. This is in an 18x19 SW104.

In hindsight I could've strung Cyclone Tour at 54 or 55 as it loses tension pretty quickly and is quite powerful of a poly, but I seem to remember, above a certain tension, I just found Cyclone Tour to be boardy so I strung it a little lower than I probably should.

That’s great if it works for you, but I wouldn’t be able to play good tennis against advanced players at those tensions. I tried cyclone tour/max power hybrid at 53/48 lbs and it was pretty comical how erratic it played. I gave it to a couple of the guys I play with and we were all laughing at how the tennis ball was just launching off the strings. I wanted to try it again so I tried this hybrid at 62/48 lbs and it played really well. Cyclone tour has a lot of initial tension loss but once it loses the initial tension it holds and plays well.

I string stiff poly like max power and lynx tour full bed around 46-48 lbs reference tension and a multi/poly hybrid around 57/48 lbs reference with good results.

Tried my first set of silver 7 tour 17 gauge and It seems like a nice playing string. Just hit ground strokes for a while and hit some serves. When trying a new string I really try to swing out and take big cuts at the ball and was impressed with the control and spin I was getting from this string. Will get a better chance in the next few days to check this string out more thoroughly.

tbh,

it's impossible homework until you tell everyone what frame (bed dimensions & pattern) we're asked to solve for.

Without those details an fixed value answers (48 lbs, etc.) are shots in the dark.

Have had a few hits with the Silver7 tour 17 gauge and it does play well. I strung it at 65 lbs. and it plays good and doesn’t feel harsh even at that tension.

I like Silver 7 Tour 17g in my Head Pro Tour 2.0 @ 44lb and still have plenty of control with a more forgiving feel than when I tried it at 50lb. I normally play 125 Cyclone or Black Code Fire 125 around 48-51lb, and would say it feels pretty similar although feels firmer than those 2.

Would be neat if Tourna made silver 7 tour into a round string. Perhaps call it silver tour. Silver 7 tour holds tension very well for a poly but plays too inconsistent for me which I attribute to the shape of the string.

Plus random sheer breaks around grommets for many people. Great string but why only offer it shaped and not round is beyond me. I also find it very inconsistent with the launch angles and have previously used it for 6 months but gave up on it due to frustration...

Dang I use full 18 gauge polys at 45-47 in my vcore 95's (both generations). 52 must be super low power.

Tried the 16 gauge silver tour today and didn’t like it as much as the 17.

17g is definitely they way to go with S7T...my go to tension is 52lbs in Blade v7 16x19. I haven't had sheer breaks in quite a while (~1.5 year)
