Quick Review of the Laserfibre MS200 ECO

Hi,

Just wanted to share with you my experience with the Laserfibre MS200 ECO.

I've strung one of my racquets with it and everything turned out very well.

It took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the job. Stringing the mains was straightforward. Doing the crosses is a little more complicated and took a little longer.

With my inexperience, I had to make sure that I start the weave correctly (over or under) with respect to the previous cross. It's also a good thing I made it a practice to check each cross after each weave since I jumped over two mains on two occassions. If I hadn't checked, I would have had to start all over again.

So far, I'm very happy with the purchase and look forward to using it to help improve my game.

I've put together a quickie website providing my impressions of the ECO including pictures. You're welcome to check it out at http://www.keohi.com/tennis/laserfibre

You're right on, I share the same thoughts. I don't string for others and I am quite pleased with the machine as well. It was a great review, good job! (:

eagle -

EXCELLENT PHOTOS! Nice web site. I know you're excited about your machine and I would be too. Congrats on your purchase and first successful string job!!!!

Pls. pop on over to the string forum and tell us how you like those Kryptonite Superblend strings. Nice shots of them. :-)

Looping the string around the tension jaw (as pictured on your site) is not necessary with the LF machine, but it appears you already made note of this in the comments section.

Again...nicely done!!!!

Wow, that's awesome. I bet your site will help out alot of people looking to buy stringers. I kind of wish I bought a laserfibre now (got a Alpha Revo 4000 and Wise tension head this summer).

Good work, have fun stringing

I'd agree that looping the string around the tensioner is unnecessary. Had never occured to me to position the string before raising the lever, but it would seem to arrive at the same result either way around. Nice website.

nice site and pics.. another convert to the Laserfibre/Stringway cult :).

I don't like to preach and I'm sure there are other machines out there that do a great job too but I love stringing on the my Stringway and it's no coincidence that there is a cult of enthusiasts who recommend them highly.

now on to your first ATW stringjob :)!

awesome website eagle, and very nicely done. how much would the upgrade to fixed clamps be since you got the upgraded turntable already?

Thanks guys.

I'll be adding a few more info to it.

About the stringing method ... as a greenie, the stringing instruction in the manual was confusing to me. But now that I know how to string with it, the manual now actually makes sense! It certainly could have been written better.

Anyway, I just looked at the manual again. It talks about two options for clamping the string: single or double (loop method). So both methods are correct but I agree that the single will save a little bit of time. I'll try the single the next time.

kreative, I didn't get a figure from Tim but he said it would be roughly the difference between the standard flying clamp set and a fixed system. So, it's reasonable.

Thanks a lot eagle, and your page is getting better all the time... You should charge Tim a commission for each Eco sold... (:
How much did you pay for the machine? When I got mine, this option was not available (the fixed clamp turnable and mounting posts)... Just in case I decide to upgrade and make some money on the side. Congratulations, your page is informative and very professional.

Thanks simbah.

I'm sure you've noticed that I've added more laserfibre related items plus other related tennis topics.

The ECO with the upgraded turntable was $424 ($399 for the regular traveler version plus $25 for the fixed clamp turntable).

Eagle,
just to point out, on your site, on the page :
http://www.keohi.com/tennis/laserfibre/tensioning_doubleloop.htm

you say:
"That's about it. Below is a picture of what the weight lever should look like."

Picture shows lever being horizontal.

With Laserfibre, lever does not to be horizontal. It can be in any position, as long as it does not touch
anything.

Hi predrag,

Yes, that's one of the reasons I like this stringer. So long as the lever doesn't bottom out, the lever can be at any angle. The lever just happened to be in that position when I took the pix. :)

Thanks,
eagle

Exellent work, eagle. Your site is very nice. I have the MS200TT and it's very similar to your ECO. By the way ... unless I'm mistaken, a believe your graphic representation of the double half hitch knot is flawed. The string shown is not looping back through, so if you tensioned is as shown it would not pull tight.

Hi bcaz,

That's interesting because that's how I've strung my racquets as shown in the pictures right below the diagram.

Actually, I agree with the graphic.
There is another slightly modified double hitch where the string goes through the first loop as well.
I think that Gaines uses this one.

For starting know I use something similar to what is shown, where string does not go across the last loop but all the way through.

The only thing I don't get is:

"Comments from Randy Law: "I tried to loop the string around the tension clamp as shown on your photos, and it actually works very well. It holds the string a bit better, and will prevent a groove from developing on the vertical shaft. I've had to disassemble my machine twice and sand down the nick on the shaft. Looping the string should solve the problem""

What's he talking about exactly?

Mr. Topspin, I got this directly from Tim when my MS200TT was not locking in the up position. It seems that when you string a lot of rackets (I'm estimating about 400+ on any machine) there is going to be some wear and tear. The shaft that supports the tension clamp is held by a vertical shaft. There is a spring and a washer assembly that is part of the sensory head. Mine had developed a small nick, that caught the shaft just enough that the locking mechanism would not hold. To solve this problem, I simply disassembled the tension/clamp mechanism and smoothed out the shaft using plain sand paper. This solved the problem, but I believe that using the wrap around method would prevent this from ocuring in the 1st place, as an even tension would be applied to the head as it locked during tensioning.

If you do not string rackets as much as I do, this may not be a problem for years, it took 3 years for this to effect my machine. Hope this is enough detail, give Tim S a call if you need more info on this issue.

Ok thanks, I kind of get the idea of what's going on now. One thing I do though is change up with side I pass the string through. So I'm guessing that by doing so, the wear and tear on the shaft is going to be even on both sides. But preventing any wear and tear is the better option, so I'll definitely give Tim a call (I haven't spoken to him in such a long time too) and see what he has to say.

Great job eable, you site keeps getting better and better. It's a heck of a great machine isn't it? It deserves the great reputation it gets.
