“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”
― Walt Whitman

"We can't always belive the little picture that goes above a poster's name."

Is "Better_Call_Raul" related to Royalty? Is "Sudacafan" in the Emperor's military? Is "Nostradamus" a hot new Hollywood starlet  ?
And there's always a 50% chance that "nba.nfl.man" is actually a 70 year old guy in a maximum federal prison, sent there long ago
for shoplifting a can of tennis balls when he was 18 years old. But who would know? He never had the chance to become a tennis star!!

Not knowing one's real self is the greatest of Maya. Once this ignorance is removed,
the illusion departs.
-Param Pujya

There is a concept in the Upanishad that the universe created by Brahma is illusion
that distracts one from form the true oneness of reality. And so, then, what is reality?

Even our own senses "interpret" reality as electrical impulses- a kind of separation in
itself- much like Plato's allegory of the cave where those chained inside see only shadows
cast by objects from the true reality "outside".

If you think of an "avatar" as a projection of one's inner inner-self then the little pictures
might be closer to "reality" than no picture at all (see posting, above).

You see people shopping, walking, chatting, but just looking at them, what do you really
know? You hear them talking, playing, dining, relating to others, and maybe you know something more.

So, yes, an avatar may be a disguise, but it is also a clue. A novelist writes a book- every character, setting,
dialogue gives a clue to to the author's nature, bias, comprehension...

I never settled on an iconic image, and so, ended up with a blue "B". There is another poster, here, that also
sports a blue "B"- but most likely we have our differences.

Some from sci-fi/fantasy writer Jack Vance

While we are alive we should sit among colored lights and taste good wines,
and discuss our adventures in far places; when we are dead the opportunity is past.

You are are young; you have hopes. One by one they will go, and nothing will be left but the bare
facts of life.

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.

Uncertainty hurts more than ignorance.

An inch of foreknowledge is worth ten miles of afterthought.

Every story has, or should have a mood: the connective tissue that holds the story together.
in this regard some writers are adroit, others don't have a clue.

And some various quotes about money

I am a millionaire. That is my religion.
-George Bernard Shaw, in Major Barbara

Her voice is full of money.
-F Scott Fitzgerald, In The Great Gatsby

If you can actually count your money, then you are not really a rich man.
-J Paul Getty

It is better to have a permanent income than to be fascinating.

Some from Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

-
Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.

- Life, though it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me and I will defend it.

- The beginning is always today.

- Solitude was my only consolation- deep, dark, deathlike solitude.

- When falsehood can look so like the truth, who can assure themselves of certain happiness.

- The world was to me a secret, which I desired to discover; to her it was a vacancy, which she sought
to people with imaginations of her own.

Nora Ephron quotes
  • Insane people are always sure that they are fine. It is only the sane people who are willing to admit that they are crazy.
  • [on success] Most of us live our lives devoid of cinematic moments.
  • One of the few advantages to not being beautiful is that one usually gets better-looking as one gets older; I am, in fact, at this very moment gaining my looks.
  • [on feminine hygiene aids] There are a lot of men who manufacture the product who are so reluctant to talk straight about it that you can spend hours with them and not hear one anatomical phrase. They speak of 'the problem'. They speak of 'the area where the problem exists'. Every so often a hard-core word slides into the conversation. Vagina, maybe. Or sometimes from someone particularly scientific or candid, a vulva or two.
  • I don't care who you are. When you sit down to write the first page of your screenplay, in your head, you're also writing your Oscar acceptance speech.
  • I am continually fascinated at the difficulty intelligent people have in distinguishing what is controversial from what is merely offensive.
  • If pregnancy were a book they would cut the last two chapters.
  • The desire to get married, which - I regret to say, I believe is basic and primal in women - is followed almost immediately by an equally basic and primal urge - which is to be single again.
  • Insane people are always sure that they are fine. It is only the sane people who are willing to admit that they are crazy.
  • Summer bachelors, like summer breezes, are never as cool as they pretend to be.
  • My mother was a good recreational cook, but what she basically believed about cooking was that if you worked hard and prospered, someone else would do it for you.
  • I try to write parts for women that are as complicated and interesting as women actually are.
  • In my sex fantasy, nobody ever loves me for my mind.
  • My mother wanted us to understand that the tragedies of your life one day have the potential to be comic stories the next.
  • What will happen to sex after liberation? Frankly, I don't know. It is a great mystery to all of us.
  • What my mother believed about cooking is that if you worked hard and prospered, someone else would do it for you.
  • With any child entering adolescence, one hunts for signs of health, is desperate for the smallest indication that the child's problems will never be important enough for a television movie.
  • When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
  • Beware of men who cry. It's true that men who cry are sensitive to and in touch with feelings, but the only feelings they tend to be sensitive to and in touch with are their own.
  • Whenever I get married, I start buying Gourmet magazine.
  • As far as the men who are running for president are concerned, they aren't even people I would date.
  • A successful parent is one who raises their child to be able to pay for their own psychoanalysis.

Some quotes from Evelyn Waugh

I can't quite explain it, but I don't believe one can ever be unhappy for long
provided one does just exactly what one wants to and when one wants to.

Anyone who has been to an English public school will always feel
comparatively at home in prison.

He was greatly pained by how little he was pained by by the events of the afternoon.

Instead of this absurd division into sexes they ought to class people as static or dynamic.

Some Buckminster Fuller quotes

You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
― Buckminster Fuller

“We should do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian Darwinian theory he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.”
― Buckminster Fuller

“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly.”
― Buckminster R. Fuller

“Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren't any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn't be here in the first place. And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life's challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person. ”
― R. Buckminster Fuller

“Humans beings always do the most intelligent thing…after they’ve tried every stupid alternative and none of them have worked”
― Richard Buckminster Fuller

“When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty........ but
when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is
wrong.”
― R. Buckminster Fuller

“Everything you've learned in school as "obvious" becomes less and less obvious as you begin to study the universe. For example, there are no solids in the universe. There's not even a suggestion of a solid. There are no absolute continuums. There are no surfaces. There are no straight lines.”
― Richard Buckminster Fuller
