R3 Nadal vs Monfils LOL

MOnfils will win in straight sets just like his other 2 overhyped opponents.

Nadal has nothing t hurt monfils with. Nadals serve will keep Monfils in all of his serve games. MOnfils serve games will be sweet and simple.

Straight sets easy. Ill be nice and say maybe Nadal gets a set.

Could be entertaining, I think Nadal will win in 4. Won't be too difficult for him I expect.

I'd be worried if I were a Nadal fan.

This isn't a 250 tournament. Gael means business here.

He meant business in Doha which is a 250 and the only place he's meant business against Rafa...but he is playing well and will trouble Rafa if he can hold up physically...fortunately for him it will be at night I'm sure and not supposed to be hot...with Delpo out you can say this is for the semis..though Nishikori might be tough...on that note, man, Donald Young has hit the weights!

Monfils to take a set? Nearly impossible. Nadal fans should be worried ?? Why ? IF they are not worried at the prospect of facing Federer, why Monfils ?

Does he even put his game together during Grandslams ?

I predict we'll see stretches of play from Monfils where he gets a lead in a set (possibly wins one set), earns some break points, generally makes Nadal think a little. But, inevitably he (a) won't be consistent enough (as few are), and (b) will blow momentum on multiple occasions by doing something crazy - going for absoutely the wrong shot at the wrong time.

It's never a "talent" issue with Monfils - he's a great athlete, he can play good offense, good defense, he has shots. It's not mental in the sense of fear - he's not afraid to win and he actually likes to compete (even if he can look like he's not taking it seriously). His "mental" deficiency is strategy/game management. If ever there were a player who came with all sorts of sparkling, high-quality pieces, but no instruction book on how to put those pieces together - it's Monfils. And, he needs the instruction book, desperately.

He can make the match fun and interesting, somewhat competitive (though he could also lose quickly if he's being too crazy), but I just can't see him winning, even though I'd love to see it.

Nice prediction. I like it.
Hopefully Maan Saraswati was sitting on your tongue when you said it; just like she sat on Kumbhkaran's once upon a time.

Man Monfils has looked good so far. Wish he could have had an easier draw and collected some more points. Nadal in 4

Has Monfils every got a win in a major against the top 8 ?

He plays well throughout the match , but does not have iota of seriousness in the 11th or 12th game of the set / tie breaker and will lose the match.

I predict 7-5, 7-6, 6-3.

This x100. You've encapsulated Monfils and his matchup with Nadal perfectly. Great post.

You heathens can even begin to comprehend the extension of Gael's goatness.

Monfils to live up to his role as undisputed favorite. Allez!

nadal cold just have a bad day, and monfils can get very hit and hit winners from anywhere on the court.

nadal will most likely win, but monfils still has a chance.

Monfils is the type of a player who's more concerned with looking good rather than winning.

Nadal in 3, max 4 if he's playing like crap.

My prediction: Monfils plays possum or actually gets injured in the match

I also predict at least two clown shots and one court dive

Nadal in 4

Why don't you ever include a poll?

Monfils will be very tough for Nadal. If he can win a set against Cheatinad in a 3 setter game recently, he can win another one in a 5 setter.

I predict 7-5, 7-6, 6-3.

He beat Berdych in the 1st round of Roland Garros 2013.

Rafa in 4, first real test for him. Gael is a great player though so it should be a good one.

Agree completely about the instruction book part. I see him making every shot he tries on a good day, riding on that momentum and then being up two sets against Nadal and then suddenly thinking to himself. Wait.. I'm actually winning. What do I do now? How do I close this out?

monfils can play lights out tennis. if he comes in hot, he can win.

I don't think so. I think people are overestimating how Monfils will perform. I can see Nadal taking this match in straights or maybe four (with probably one really close set.) I mean they have played a dozen times and Monfils has only been able to take about a half a dozen sets off of Nadal.

Toni Nadal on Monfils: We always expect to suffer against Monfils. It's normal to suffer against one of the best in the world, no? Monfils is the most incredible tennis athlete I've ever known. Who's faster than him? Who has that power? Who is so relaxed? Who is so flexible? No one. Now, do you need all that to be the best player? I don't think so. If you ask me if it's better to have Djokovic's or Monfils' build, I that for tennis it's better to have Djokovic's. Because he can keep up the intensity and quickness for 5-6 hours. Monfils lacks endurance. For me, he's the Frenchman who has the best chance to win Roland-Garros. The story isn't over for him because he's fresh in his mind.
