Racket smashing

Bobs tennis

Semi-Pro
When will the governing bodies in tennis crack down on racket smashing and hitting balls off court when players can't control themselves. You can hardly watch a match where rackets are not smashed repeatedly on court or balls are not smashed into stands. It's cute but that ends when someone is hit in the face as recently happened or pieces of racket don't hit someone in their eye. This is directly the responsibility of the governing bodies who so far have not really taken real action to stop this problem. I know there are some rules but they aren't being enforced. The rule should be "if you smash a racket or hit a ball into stands automatic default and hefty fine".....

The Thiem-Zverev match was embarrassing for that reason. These are supposed to be the next gen guys... and they're doing that non-sense.

Not a fan of it myself. All the Djokovic and Murray groupies have some how convinced this forum that's its cool.

Zverev did a particularly petutlant racket smash last night and then Thiem, who should have known better, nevertheless succumbed to the temptation to do the same thing.

Should be a mandatory $10,000 fine and doubling for each racket smash thereafter.

You cannot control the players, thats not what this game is about..!! These are grown men, not kids. Emotion is a big part of the game and thats why you have the top players who rarely smash a frame.

There should be penalties for conduct detrimental to the game. That is it.!!!

In this sense, Rafa is one of the best.

Even Federer broke and abused his racquets from time to time in his career, yet I've never seen Rafa so much as drop a racquet out of disgust let alone break one during the course of a match.

Boo

****ing

Hoo

Let em rage. I dont want to watch ****ing robots. If they're mad I want to see it.
You will enjoy watching it until a piece of one of those rackets or that ball hits you in the eye and you lose that eye.As has been said these are adults and they should be ready to accept responsibility for there actions.

Tank a racket properly and you'll never hurt anybody as the stick is dented so much it barely bounces. Just make sure ballboys are not running toward it when you do it. Same for tanking ball, hit it high, and you'll never hurt anyone. And if you do, accepet that DQL. Basic stick rape etiquette.

Read my posts on the subject. I can assure you I find it anything but 'cool'.

I said once before that I think the authorities should set up punch-bags in all 4 corners of the court for players to hit and lash out at when they are feeling particularly frustrated. I think we have to recognise that they need to let off steam and release tensions on occasion and this way they can do it safely without endangering anyone by smashing racquets or hitting balls into the crowd.

Just my twopennyworth!

My Dear Mainad, you are clearly above mere groupie status!:D;)

Not many folks seem to remember it nowadays, but Federer used to be one of the worst ever racket smashers in his early days. ;)

And not just in his early days. ;)

Ah, that was quite a good attempt, don't you think? I gave it a 7.5/10 note, if I remember well.
No ballkids or umps were hurt in the process, perhaps it deserves a bonus-point for that.

Seriously though, that was indeed a reminiscence to his youthful days, most likely fueled by his slump/start of decline at that time. ;)
