Racquet brands used by ATP Top 100

Indy Tennis

Semi-Pro
I was bored tonight and just compiled a list of the racquet brand the ATP Top 100 are using.

I found it interesting that only nine brands were represented. That has to be close to an historic low.

Head leads the way at this time, barely, over Wilson.

It's interesting to note Head, Wilson and Babolat dominate the pro tour right now, with 78 of the top 100 using one of those three brands.

1. Head - 30
2. Wilson - 28
3. Babolat - 20
4. Yonex - 10
5. Prince - 5
6. Technifibre - 4
7. ProKennex - 1
8. Srixon -1
9. Volkl - 1

wilson's current paint schemes make it fairly easy for them to disguise pros racquets. theyre all matte black, just have to change the color on the edges of the hoop to designate which frame you want the pro to "endorse"

Excellent compilation !!

However, I think we should ignore what pros use, as it is matter of $$$$$ .

Many good quality brands cant afford endorsement, and many top brands of the list sell totally bullsh*t racquets , that are best sellers just because of marketing.

I know its hard for a tennis fan, a long time ago I bought a K factor 90 because I thought it was Federer s Racquet. And many still buy the RF97a for that reason. We are So silly...

Interesting list, thanks for putting this together. Not sure how best to interpret it though, does it represent consumer market share, pro market share, and/or the brands' willingness to sponsor Pros?

Just looked at a list I did back in 2006 and there were 12 racquet brands in the top 100.

Side note...I noticed your profile name.

Are you in Indianapolis?

I'm always looking for people to hit with in the area.

I would have private messaged you, but didn't see the option on your profile.

just remember that some racquet companies don't really pay people to use their sticks while others do..

it's a lot more interesting to go to a challenger and see what these fantastic players are using.

because they mostly have to buy their own....

That's where you still find a lot of Technifibre, Volkl and the like because the frames are good, not because they are paid to use them..

Of course, you will also see about a million Pure Drives, but if you haven't worked out that's one of the greatest all around sticks ever made then I can't help you....

The K90 was actually a quality mass produced racket, regardless of who played with it.

Would be interesting to see a list of the top 100 divided into the following:

* Custom made or Pro stock

* Modified actual production racquet

* Modified actual production racquet with paintjob

Does not surprise me. Money talks, pros have to eat, so does the big three...

Quick Pop Quiz. Big Kudos to first poster that answers the following question.

There is something peculiar about the list above. What is it?
I give. What is it?

I don't know about peculiar but it shows just how far Dunlop has fallen that there's not a single one. Didn't Amalgro play with Dunlop then came back after a foot injury playing Volkl?

It's a Tecnifibre (I think Dynacore) with Head Speed paint on it.

Are you really sure? I think Verdasco was playing with a Speed PJ and under it the Novak mould (pt113), then tried or actually played last year with the Prestige Rev Pro (312.x) and is now back to this old Radical mould. Not a Tecnifibre...

Well, if you zoom in on his rackets you still see the Dynacore grommets

Pretty sure he plays with a head mold.

He did play with tecnifibre for years though. Probably the brand he played with the most in his career without switching brands all the time.

The 315 limited is supposedly the mold he played with tecnifibre.

Why would Head paint a Tecnifibre to look like a Head Speed Touch? @vsbabolat @moon shot

I'm just guessing here, I don't think Head does that, but I think Bosworth has in the past. I think they worked with Nauritalova back when she played with a dunlop painted as a yonex for a short time, and with some other player who had a prestige mid painted as a dunlop hotmelt. If I remember right someone said Verdasco is working with Bosworth.

Not to say that it is a Technifibre.

Also shocked to see Prince so low. They once were right up there with Wilson and Head.
Obviously Prince does not have money to spend enough endorsements and "5" is not bad.
I don't have exact number but I believe Prince is still 4th place for market share and probably Yonex gained market share after releasing AI/DR series.

Thx for providing a better picture @moon shot. The ones I've found were blurry but as I wrote above for anyone familiar with certain things in tennis equipment power pads would be the more obvious choice.

there arn't many crisp photos of Verdasco floating around. Here's some more:

Power pads were tan leather when he was with technifibre

4 things:

1. Yonex is gaining traction and by 2018/2019 we will see this on tour.
2. It's a shame that Head's retail frames are week in comparison to pro stock.
3. If people saw more Volkl on tour they would wake up and realise how good their products are.
4. Dunlop/Slazenger should be wrapped over the knuckles for what they have done to their product line. In the past their 200, 300 and 400 lines were viable options.

Has Chardy dropped Tecnifibre?
Not that I know of. He has been pretty heavily used in their marketing. I think Tecnifibre are taking a lef out of babolats book atm buying up lots of junior players with potential hoping a few will break through. Good plan I reckon. BTW IM NOT IMPLYING CHARDY IS ONE OF THOSE YOUNG GUNS.

Most consumers really only care about the top 10 ....and from the top 10 the most important is fed, Nadal , Joker , Murray .....in that order.

Anyway in the top ten 3 players use Babolat ,Wilson, and head respectively for a total of 9 out of the top ten with the big boys .
Only Yonex was able to slip into the top 10. This is no accident .

As far as the elite of the top 10 (Fed,Nadal,Joker,Murray) there is no room for anyone but the top 3 brands .
Wilson the biggest company has the top endorsement of Federer, Babolat the second largest has the second top draw of Nadal , and Head the third buggest company has the third and fourth most coveted endorsements .

There are no surprises here . After the top 10 the big boys don't really care ....if one of the lower players happens to make it into the top 10 then the big boys will chase them down and make them switch .

****note: Wilson would have had Joker but in a rare instance Joker rather than go for the money played with Head because he just honestly liked it better . If not for this honesty Wilson would have secured Joker as well.....the only surprise here is that Head got two of the four.

I don't know what it's like today, but I had a friend on the ATP Tour in the 1980s early '90s and he got paid 60K for endorsing the racquet he played with and he was never ranked any higher than 40th in the world. Of course it was an off-brand racquet (the one with the strange diagonal string pattern), so they were probably looking to get in the pro ranks anyway they could.

1. Yonex is gaining traction and by 2018/2019 we will see this on tour.

I couldn't have explained better....My Head Zebra with mold PT57 used by 90% of Head players sponsored by them is way far from Head stock nowadays...Wilson H22 is well known is a copy of this frame of Head...Yonex did very good frames Rdis, rds, vcore 95 and the pros use the same customized with lead and leather...on the other hand Dunlop made awesome sticks in the past...Dunlop revelation line or some biomimetic's are wonderful frames....I've never played with an Angell frame, but someday...

Greetings from the Australian Open 2024: Any one done the current figures? Just taking a casual glance, it certainly looks like the commonest brands, for men and women at the Australian Open in 2024 are:
1) Wilson
2) Yonex
3) Head
4) Babolat

5) Dunlop
6) Technifibre
7 Others.

Thoughts? Observations?

There certainly seems to be a lot of Blade paint jobs when you factor in men and women. Amongst the male draw it has to be pretty close between Wilson and Head.

I find it interesting that Babolat seems to have fallen quite a bit. They do have the 2 best young male players with Rune and Alcaraz (maybe Fils too) so they seem to be almost going the Nike route of just the highly ranked/top prospect players.

Yonex is absolutely taking over, so many VCore and Ezones

Edit: Tecnifibre is clearly ahead of Dunlop, honestly they’re probably not far off Babolat. They’re really growing!

I'm astonished how many WTA players use Wilsons. Yonex has made some inroads with female players but so many of them seem to use a blade or steam.
