Racquet Matching & Customization

I am "dialing in" on my Swing Weight and Static weight on my current racquet. When I'm happy with that I'm going to have a bunch of the same racquet matched and "specced" by a professional racquet technician.

Now, when I customize, I used tungsten tape for the hoop; and tungsten putty for the butt. Pretty standard stuff.

However, when a racquet tech pro customizes -- according to my specs and matches the racquets to each other -- does he or she use the same methods and materials? Or something more permanent? (Of course they have swing weight machine, etc.)

Hey Katzenjammer, I would imagine they'll make the adjustments as permanent as you want them to. They'll probably use tungsten tape on the hoop; under the bumper for a cleaner look. But if you want to make your own adjustments later, it would be way easier for you if they didn't put it under the bumper. They may use tungsten putty in the handle or silicone. Neither of which is easily removed.

I've had my Blade 98 V8's matched by a racket technician. He put tungsten tape on the hoop (not under the bumper) and silicone in one of their handles. He asked me what I wanted in the handle. I had heard that silicone gives it a very solid feel, but it's virtually permanent (or quite the pain in the *** to get it out). I love the feel of the silicone. I wouldn't change it. However, I just bought a Blade 100 V9, and I've put tungsten putty in the handle myself. I know that can get really messy as well especially trying to get it out, so I wrapped the putty in saran wrap and formed it to fit inside the handle. I didn't realize the Blade 100 would already have foam in the chambers, so I just placed the putty at the very end of the buttcap. Balance feels nice without measuring it.

I'll hit with it tonight for the first time. My guess is that the foam/putty will feel solid and comfortable but less amazing than the silicone (I'm pretty sure silicon weighs more than tungsten putty too although I'm not sure)

Anyway, my point is that they should be able to customize your rackets in several ways with varying degrees of permanency. I would ask them what your options are.

Thanks, yes I do the same thing with the putty - I put it in a small plastic bag. Works well. So the silicone has a different feel? Why can't you do the same? That is, put it in a plastic bag/wrap of some kind? Also, do you have a link to quality silicone for this purpose?

Just be specific in the request. IME with TW customization for example… you just have to tell them how you like it. You’ll get charged for materials in addition to labor.

I wish my local club offered this, especially Atleast a swing weight machine. My brother does everything else, but to get the last detail would be great.

Where are you? You can always send your racquet(s) somewhere; prolly not too far, to get the measured. It's nice to know where you're starting at least.

I’m just south of Boston. I have a club I go to in Rhode Island and was apart of another one originally. A lot of my frames don’t vary in static weight so I go off of tennis warehouses estimated sw minus a couple points since some of their older specs on their website look to be a bit off.
