Racquet Technology: Babolat NCT vs Wilson NCode

    Anyone here have a background in physics or chemistry? Can you please explain which among these two technological systems would theoretically be better for tennis racquets as an application? Or are they basically the same?

    ncode uses silicon oxide (SiO2) which is virtually a glass. this means that
    its like glass fiber composite using carbon fiber. i dont know how
    densely the carbon fibers are braided, but if they really use SiO2
    as shown in the image in their website, it should add considerable
    weight to the racket, since SiO2 is much heavier than carbon. so
    they are maybe just using in some part (like 3 and 9 oclock) of the racket.

    nct uses carbon nanotube only a fraction of amount, if i read their
    website correctly. nanotubes are very expensive compared to carbon
    fibers, and they are usually very short compared to fibers.
    i think real effective use of nanotube in the composite is very difficult at present.

    at the moment, ncode might be more technologically mature and effective
    since it doesn't use something really new.
    in the future, if nct keeps on developing, it will have great advantages
    over conventional rackets.

    i still think we'll be using simple graphite/kevlar blends for the next 100 years in the top players' racquets.
