racquets' recommended string tensions?

This may be a silly question, but is there any validity or accuracy in a manufacturer's recommended range for string tension? My Babolat PS is listed at 55-62 but I wanted to try a poly in it at around 50. Are these recommended ranges tailored specifically for each racquet based on string pattern, head size, weight, etc.? And is it normal to go way below the recommended range?

There are people that string full bed poly at 30 pounds and found it to be amazing.
Others have a 40 pound difference in their mains and crosses.
You can do whatever you want.

You are right in the great range for a copoly. But you did not mention a tension range that you normally use. I always recommend starting to go down the tension you are use to a few pounds. No issues, next time again go down a few. Until you find the lowest tension, you play the best with. Takes time and effort...again no one shot silver bullets here....and have fun...

Recommended tension ranges typically apply to syn. gut or multifiber. Poly and copoly strings usually run more firm or "stiff" if installed at the same tensions as those softer string types, so many players like their poly these days tensioned somewhere from the low 40's up to around 50 lbs. Some go looser, but others still want their poly tensioned in the high 50's or even low 60's. Trial and error will dial you in.

Way below happens a lot, there are plenty of poly users out there in the 40 to 48 range. Some companies put more effort/specificity into the recommended range, while others are more generic. Going below it is no problem, you can go above it to a certain extent as well and not void your warranty.
